p philsila pora??? how do you say this?

I disagree with the above posts in that it is not a high lighting sps. I had a frag of it that started out as a single stalk about the size of a cherry when open. Under 150w of VHO it has tripled in size in about a year. I too have had it spawn in my system. Now I do agree that it would grow...

    Tube with snail inside?

It is a Vermetid snail. A very common hitchhiker that reproduces VERY easily in the home aquarium. It is probably more than likely OK if you saw its threads come out after the cold water bath. They are rather hardy in my experience. Justin

    advice needed

Welcome to the board! Well . . . for starters, I will just warn you now that you are going to catch some flak for your tank. Just fair warning, and dont take it personally. Now . . . . a few things. For starters take the anemones out. Under that lighting they simply dont have a chance at...

    New 20

Species tank for something or other . . . seahorses are really neat when they are cared for properly. So are mantis shrimp. (I am sure you knew that though) Another idea depending on how much you want to spend is an anemone tank. I have seen some tanks that are devoted strictly to the condi...

    Acrylic Stand vs Pine Stand

Dan . . . . I am going to assume that your residence is rather permanant. If thats the case, and you dont plan on moving for a while, I would put some serious thought into a steel stand. Not the whole thing, but the frame and supports, and then put a facia on the outside be it whatever you...

    Acrylic Stand vs Pine Stand

Personally, I think that a black acrylic stand looks very impressive, especially the size you are talking about . . . BUT . . . . only for like the first few months. After that they get scratched and begin looking rather cheap and tacky. True there are buffer and repair kits out there, but...

When do you think it's safe to start adding SPS or Clams to an aquarium?

I have to agree with the general trend that there is more to having a "mature" tank than a time frame. As previously stated, a tank can be ready for sps in under a year IMO. I think that a tank that can grow coralline algae on the back glass is ready for sps. I dont mean expanding patches, I...

    Water change poll -

5% on a weekly basis. Seems like a lot, but I only have a 22 gallon tank and no filtration. So its kinda necessary. But my water paramaters dont change. Period.

    Whoa! That SUCKED!

The best advice that I can give for moving a tank is to keep as much of the water as you can, and use buckets. Lots of buckets to help you move things. At least the moving experience was an event that I learned from. I am going to have to move again in a year, but instead of going 2 miles, I...

    Free stuff!!! . . . . (kinda)

I am horribly sorry to say that I cannot hold up my end of the bargain.:( In case you have not had a chance to read my post in the reef forum, I had a significant disaster in moving my tank and was unable to keep the water heated in the old tank let alone keep water in it period. THe post is...

    Whoa! That SUCKED!

Scotts, Suprisingly not much . . . . . I had slammed on the breaks pretty hard and had slowed a lot before the impact, plus my whole front end is plastic. I am going to need a new hood, but thats about it. Justin

    KH/Alk Test

What salt are you using? and what about buffers . . . . which are you using if any? I have found that IO salt brings pH up nicely to 8.2. That and when combined with the correct buffer, it will stabilize there. Personally, I use seachem's powedered products for both alk and ca. Now, I dont...

    Whoa! That SUCKED!

Well . . . I havent been around much latley because I was in the process of moving and dont have the internet hooked up yet at the new place. But I can still get on here at work. Anyway . . . as I am sure you can imagine, I had to move my tank. Boy I tell you . . . never want to do that again...

Great link NM, but nothing there that is even close. The closest thing on the page is the sea hare, and the only resembelance there is because of the flesh color. Any other ideas? Justin
