how much can you keep in a 29 gal...

Only a few small fish would fit in there, but a 29 can make a great reef tank. Ask Ryebread to see some pictures of his old 29. It was pretty slick. Justin

    Tap, or Distilled H2O????

A couple things. For starters, ditch the crushed coral and get some aragonite or southdown sand. You will be much happier in the longrun. A SW tank can be maintained and succesful with crushed coral, but IMO it is more labor intensive. Secondly, definitely dont use tap water. I dont care what...

    MI tanks for sale

Should you decide to part things out, I would be willing to work something out for a bubble coral and some snails. Justin justinbm@med.umich.edu

    New 0.75 gallon nano!

Get some pantyhose and put the rock with the shrooms into them (cut the pantyhose down to size obviously) and stretch the nylons so that they force the shroom into contact with the rock. Leave it like this for about a week at most and they will attach in no time. Justin

How did everyone that was affected make out with the black out?

I was without power for about 30 hours, and a little stirring of the tank with a big wooden spoon and blowing through an airline, and everything survived. No casualties!:) Sorry for all those who did though:(

    Turkey Wing?

I got a couple of these clams as hitchikers on my LR. They are pretty boring, but a decent find I guess. Things could be worse. However . . . . keep an eye on them. I had one die, and didnt realize it until I had an ammonia spike. They are very easy to remove once they die. Just give a good...

    Bac-pak 2R air valve and O ring

For the O ring, you can search places like home depot or lowes. For the airline valve, you can write to CPR or go to their webpage. HTH Justin

    zebra hermit...2 thumbs down

At first, I had the same problems with my zebra hermits. One way to alleviate this is to introduce lots of extra shells. Especially larger ones. If it makes you fell better, they only do this as juvenilles. Once they reach full size they are actually rather docile. HTH Justin

    I'm in the dark here!!!!!!

Well, as many of you know, the northeast is pretty much without power. It sucks to have a reef tank right now, especially when temps in Detroit have soared over 90 the past few days. All looks well in the tank, but who knows how long that will last. First water temp this morning was 76, where...

    cpr bakpak

Well . . .yes and no. You are incresing the flow, but remember that when you add an airline to a pump, it drastically reduces the output of a pump. So keep that in mind. Plus, a more efficient venturi will produce more bubbles than the RIO. So while you may have less contact time, there are...

    "Best" test kits?

Well . . . . I can see that, but one thing to keep in mind is that if the ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites register anything more than zero, it is a concern. pH however does require some accuracy. I have found that holding it up to direct sunlight has helped me to more accurately discern...

    cpr bakpak

I think that the alternative pump that comes recommended is the MJ 1200, but I still use the RIO that came with it . . . . one year later. Go to CPR's web page, they have a BB there that you can get answers directly from some of their engineers. HTH Justin

    "Best" test kits?

Read my post entitled "Test Kits" started by gypsie. It answers what you want to know. But why not aq. pharm.? Its a decent inexpensive kit that is simple, easy to use, and as accurate as it needs to be.

    New 0.75 gallon nano!

The list goes on and on. . . . . there are a couple people there that are truly interested in keeping my tank alive and well, but it took a years worth of shopping there to get to that point. Then there are others that are merely out to make a buck, and others that don't know which end is...

    Test Kits

Well . . . a couple things to keep in mind here. 1. You could go out and spend like 200 bucks on the salifert master reef kit, and get EVERYTHING that you would need, and some things that will merely collect dust. 2. If your tank is still a new tank (less than 6 mo. old) Go with the FasTest...
