    Tomato not looking so good

My tomato clown has discolored and ragged ventral fins. I noticed this a few weeks ago, but they seemed to get better. Now he is hanging out behind a rock, breathing fast and not eating. He is usually one of my most bold fish and eats like a pig. My tank is 55 gallons with a sump/refuge...

    Tank size for Tusks

Yeah... he wants a porc. I have a hawaiian blue spot in another tank that would be perfect... I'll continue the battle. I can just picture even a smaller porc being too large... not only for its happiness but aesthetically for the tank. I think I'd like to have the hawaiian puffer, snowflake...

    Tank size for Tusks

A 65 gallon system sorta fell in my lap, so my roommate and I are gonna make it an aggressive tank. I keep reading on various websites that harlequin tusks require a minimum of 55-65 (that's the range i'm seeing) and lots of hiding places. Frankly I'm a little skeptical... it seems they get a...

    Spiny Box Puffers

No, they get much to large for a 30 gallon. Toby puffers work well in 30 gallons... valentini or hawaiian blue spotted.

    Flame and Coral Beauty

It's generally advised against, as you know. Also keep in mind that whether or not your foxface picks at your coral is unlikely to have any bearing on whether or not an angel will.

    another eel question.

Yeah, 6 inches is quite small for an eel in an aggressive tank. It probably looks delicious to your other fish. I'd try to put a few pieces of food in the rocks where the eel hangs out so it can have some cover during meal time. If it doesn't eat them right away... it will eventually I would...

    protein skimmer

I agree with others. I don't think water hardness matters. Also, if it's a new tank with nothing in it (ie no live rock curing, no fish being fed, etc.) you're not going to get any skimmate.

    Can I Keep Damsels????

The damsels are likely to be a problem regardless of how much LR you have.

    Holy fish neglect...

A friend of my roommate's gave me her 65 gallon tank today. It had two damsels and a chocolate chip star in it. I just measured the salinity and it was 1.038! I'm amazed that they could live through that (more the star than the damsels). I can't imagine what the nitrates are.
