    Carbon & Nitrate

I called SeaChem and spoke to them, very nice people! I ended up placing an order for 12L of SeaChem Matrix. I will take Nitrate readings for the next couple days, then I will take them after I make the media switch and report back how much they decrease. Thanks for all the help and thoughts!

Carbon - looking for large pieces

I was wondering if anyone knows of a company that makes carbon that is larger in size that the 'typical'? Maybe half the size of marbles? (Seachem, Kent, Eheim, Blue Life, etc.) ? Thanks!

    Carbon & Nitrate

These types of filters do not have any pads inside, just the media. I do have course filter 'pads' around the intakes that I clean once every 2 weeks. The filters I pull out about once a month (not at the same time) and rise the media while doing a water change. The media is always clean, and...

    Carbon & Nitrate

Can Carbon reduce Nitrate? From what I have read, not directly, but it can help absorb organics which lead to Nitrate down the road. Esentially Skimmers work by removing the organics that lead to nitrate, correct? I ask this because I previously had a 75g with 2 HOB bio-wheel 330's & minimal LR...

Spiny Urchin or Tuxedo Urchin - which is better?

The Spiny Urchins they had were huge and they wanted too much for the Tuxedo Urchins, but they did have a lesser 'Green Urchin', does anyone know much about them? I guess they had it for a while, just curious how they stack up against the Tuxedos? Thanks!

Spiny Urchin or Tuxedo Urchin - which is better?

My LFS has some Spiny Urchins & Tuxedo Urchins (multicolor), I was curious which ones are better suited for the aquarium? Goal is for them to take care of some small pockets of Hair Algae. I plan to swing by at the end of the day so the quicker the responces the better Thanks!

    Shaving Brush - Nitrate removal?

How does Shaving Brush work at removing Nitrate? How much would you really need to see a difference? It would go in the main tank. Thanks!

Urchins - Are they bad ?

I was thinking about getting an Urchin, is that a good/bad idea? I did a search but did not find too many posts on them. I remember hearing that they eat coral, is that true? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

'Reef Packages' - best CU crew ?

The tank has been up and running for a little while. I had a CUC but most have died off and I need to replace them. 1st I am going to figure out why they died off. My params all seem to be in check, the hermits lasted a long time but the snails seems to die off quickly. I have had 3 tanks in the...

'Reef Packages' - best CU crew ?

I was curious what the 'best' reef package is for a CU crew? I have narrowed it down to 4: 1) Market Leader 2) Janitor 3) Big Boy 4) 55-100 Gallon I do have a small hair algae problem if that info helps. Also, I have heard that the hermits will eat the snails, how true is that? The 'Big Boy' has...

    8 hour power outage

I would get one of the 'battery back-up' units they sell for computers. As soon as the power turns off the back-up kicks on. I would at least have the heater & a power head plugged into it, that way your temp down not drop and you have water circulation. How big is your tank? They all a LOT of...
