Explain to me how the skimmer works

I've been fiddling but so far it isn't working right. I see the little tornato in the bottom and it bubbles up the top part but then goes back down the way it came. Humph

New to the hobby need help

Other people will know much more then me as I'm fairly new to this too. My experience with the fresh water tanks has been let it cycle with nothing(in saltwater with the live rock/sand) for at least 2-3 weeks, then add just a couple hardy fish and let it cycle another 2-3 weeks before adding...

How do I clean this skimmer?

I moved into this house with the 170g tank. I've gotten most of the sump cleaned up and had to replace the side filter altogether but used what material out of the old for the new as I could. I'm now ready to deal with the skimmer but I've never had one before so am afraid to pull it a part to...

    Name Your Least Favorite Fish

Whatever the Chromis is that I have, it chases and nips my clown fish and tries to get the diamond goby. He is so going to be leaving soon. My three stripe damsel isn't bad and has lots of character. The only time I saw him bug anyone was for a very short time the first day I added new fish. He...

Suggestions for a new Clean-up crew

Well I have some 5 Mexican Turbo Snails that do an awesome job on the glass and keeping the aglea under control on the live rock. I got two black turbos(didn't want to get more until I saw what they do) and so far(5 days) they haven't done much. I thought they were both dead untill one moved...

    Does Loud Music Irritate Fish?

You'll know it's to loud when your rocks/corals start to fall *lol* I'd think as long as nothings touching the tank to vibrate it, it should be ok.

    Two mouths?

Sorry forgot to ask in last post about this. It looks like the anemone is growing a second mouth, could be wrong but thats what it looks like. Could it be splitting? It moved at the begining of the week too.

Update: I got a clean up crew

Well I got the glass out but didn't cover the whole tank. The middle is open and I can't get it right to the sides because of the filters/heaters ect... so there's lots of beathing room, hopefully covered enough that no one gets out. I'll try the mesh when I can get some. The remaining goby is...

Update: I got a clean up crew

gggggrrrrrrrrrr I woke up to a goby on the floor. Now I have to figure out how it got out of the tank. It could have gotten out the back possibly but then it would have been inside the cabnit still not on the fllor out front. Of course Hubby buried the back top behind boxes in the basement.
