Spanko, the wetwebmedia link you posted is a another important issue as well and very informative. We do need to QT corals for the "bugs" they carry that we can see, but even longer if trying to let parasites die off. This is where we are failing now.........the 2 QT tanks are full of fish so...

Papa Spanko, we have just recently started QT almost everything. I had put everything in hypo in the big tank and QT new fish arrivals and the ick came back, so had to repeat the entire process. Either the ick wasn't gone in the first place or it came in on a coral/invertebrate. who knows. A...

Mothers Day gift- bouquet of suncorals

They actually have a greenish tint to them at certain angles when they are closed up. Our guy at the LFS said they were green when open but under our light they mostly look dark grey/black when open. The piece I have (on the left) has 2 smaller pieces of black, hubbies (on the right) has 2...

Mothers Day gift- bouquet of suncorals

Sorry if I'm boring you all with pictures, but I just really like these. This is what they looked like when we got home from work tonight. The second picture is my original suncorals that were brought back from the brink of death. I'm pretty proud of those too.

Yes, it does feel like FOREVER. Esp. when we keep adding corals to the DT, we have to keep starting the count down over! I have done the 120g twice now and it felt like it would never end. It is worth it to not have to repeat that mistake. hopefully

Mothers Day gift- bouquet of suncorals

Thank you both. We have "his and her" tanks Actually, I introduced him to the hobby so i am more than okay with it. I love flowers, but personnally would much rather have something for the tank (but NOT equipment). It will last much longer, hopefully He liked them so much he got one for...

Mothers Day gift- bouquet of suncorals

My hubbie presented me with an early Mothers Day gift (we both work on mothers day--uugghh). I have some suncorals for over a year now that I really like and having been looking to add some different varieties. He found this beautiful bouquet of suncorals. It is difficult to see from the...

    New Craigslist find

Just another thought---at one point my husband had black sand in his tank. We both thought it would look great with his black background and edges of his tank. A couple of people had warned us that it didn't look as nice with the corals, but we did it anyway. It really did make the colors of...

    New Craigslist find

You don't NEED to buy live sand. If you buy some live rock it will eventually seed your sand or agronite. It didn't take too long to see little critters in the substrate in the two tanks we have. We have had both agronite and sand (and crushed coral ages ago). I personally prefer the...

    New Craigslist find

Welcome to the saltwater world! I agree with Slice that I would just get new, clean sand unless she is selling it really cheap. Then clean it really well, it is doubtful there is still life in it if it has been out of the tank awhile. Base rock where we live is $2.99-$3.49 a pound, so what...

How about before/after pictures? Of tanks/aquascaping/coral growth/fish maturing. I love seeing tanks progress and seeing how corals have grown and changed over time.

    Spanko's change history

I like this thread! What coral have you had the longest? Do you still have anything from when you originally set the tank up?

My hope was that we wouldn't need to use any chemicals in QT tank (hypo only). I realize that may not be very realistic. Then if we alternated between fish and coral we would only need routine cleanings. If we hypo all (or most) new arrivals then let the tank set fallow for 8 weeks, I would...

Spanko's bio cube, what in Posiden's name is he up to now?

Your tank is beautiful Henry. Is that a watermelon chalice? I REALLY like that.

    ? reguarding mushroom leather

Thank You Meowzer, I am not normally a big fan of leathers but I really liked the shape and colors. You know I have the rule that nothing goes in the tank without QT first, but I did break that rule for this because the QT is full and I almost never find leathers I like. I removed 3 buckets...
