I think that the hardest thing to figure out about the meds is the correct dose to use. A 120 gallon tank sometimes only holds about 90 gallons after you subtract the glass and the actual water level. The rock and other items are also going to take away water volume so it is really hard to get...

How old is your system and more importantly is your system completely cycled? Ammonia can cause red splotches. The splotches are usually around the gills but can be anywhere from what I have read
