Do not keep pink tips (condi) with clownfish.Other than that, their actual preferences mean little in captivity.

Is this fish store i go to good?

They probably don't mean that they treat them for 7 days then sell them, they hold them 7 days to detect disease and if they have any they treat them for however long it takes before selling them. This is indeed a good sign.

    harlequin shrimp

Yes. Also, the female will be larger and have more blue in the spots, the male smaller and have more pink in the spots.

This is a female, the leg the arrow is pointing to is blue, on a male it would be transparent.

    harlequin shrimp

At one point we were having trouble getting healthy starfish in. (I worked at a very large distribution center, we usually ordered chocolate chips 1000 at a time every month) They hadn't had a starfish in about a week so I put in a silverside and they hopped right on it. I fed them just...

Protien Skimmer, DO you really NEED?

You're taking the term protein skimmer a little too literally. They skim the protein from the surface of air molecules in the water, not actually the top of the water. When you can actually see a layer on top of the water you are way beyond the point where you needed the skimmer.

What Fish are good for beginers?

There is nothing wrong with having a fish only tank. Live rock is a filtration option not a nesseccity. There are many other effective types of filtration. A good canister filter combined with a protein skimmer is effective if properly maintained. to answer your question, heres a thread on easy...

    tank bread

IMHO, tank bred, raised, reared, cultured, whatever, always better than wild caught. The owner of the livestock warehouse I worked for took a trip to the Philippines and went out with some commercial ornamental fisherman. He taped the whole process and showed us. It wasn't pretty. Almost all the...

    Hawaiian Base Rock...your opinion??

It's against the law to remove rock from the ocean waters of Hawaii. What you're probably buying in just lava, pumice, limestone, or tufa, from Hawaii that was thrown in with some Fiji live rock. I guess I don't understand what the premise of the product is, but I certainly endorse the use of...

My son desires a saltwater aquarium....help!!!

I wouldn't worry about your son not being able to handle the maintenance responsibility of a large tank. According to this "He collects aluminum cans and sells them to the recycling company. He picks up pecans for the neighbors and rakes leaves for my SIL. All birthday money has been hoarded. He...

    Opinion: Glass or Acrylic?

I will never go back to glass. When I set up an acrylic tank I hang a couple layers of thick plastic drop cloth down the inside. As far as cleaning goes, just use the things made for acrylic and make sure there's no sand or rock stuck on them.

My son desires a saltwater aquarium....help!!!

Not much in a 10 gallon setup you could use. It would make a good quarantine tank though. The only thing I wouldn't buy used is the heater. As they get old corrosion builds up on the contacts and they may eventually stick. Everything else like power heads or filters can be made like brand new...
