    Buy a Flame Hawk fish and let him eat the blue hermits...or remove the blue hermits to a different tank. I have never heard of hermits eating coraline algea...but who knows...

    Are you running carbon? If not..give that a try too. Your amonia should be at zero...but .10 isn't that awful...if your nitrates are in a reasonable range...hold your water change and let the bacteria rid the amonia.

    You may try moving your stuff around in the tank...live rock, deco etc, sometimes this tends to bust of the territory a bit.

    Nitrate is the end produce of Nitrite...particles which get trapped in them as you say...will decay...once decayed they are gone...very similar to any other biological media one may use for the process...be it live rock or whatever. Any product, live or not, which is designed to harbour bacteria...

    Hair Algea thrives on a variety of things...phosphates and nitrates are up there on the list as well as silicates, and lighting... You should consider completely eliminating any sunlight on the tank...regardless of amounts it will always contribute to an algea problem... Lighting for the hobby...

    I do not really understand this...if it was a good LFS as some are claiming...why does a customer have to bring the condition of their membranes to their attention?

    Bioballs do not create a nitrate problem...people create nitrate problems... Bioballs are normally a plastic item hardly capable of creating any type of chemical reaction.... Nitrate is the result of nitrite being broken down...nothing more...and nothing less... Cured vs. uncured live rock...

    Live ROck generally doesnt require any special lighting...if you want some of the more light intense organisms which may be on the rock to flourish (polyps, etc), then you should have more intense lighting.

    If you are suspecting the nitrates could be coming from the water..why would you have the people selling you the water test it? Buy a new test kit...check it yourself...make your own determination.

    Yes you could just submerge them more...the ill effect of that would be if you ever lose siphon...the pump will still pump the water above its intake into your tank. Unless you have a lot of room to spare in your tank...this could result in a flood.
