    tunze nanostream

I wouldn't waste my money on the 6045. I bought a 6045 and a 6025 and within 30 minutes of owning the 6025 did the shroud mode that took 5 minutes and gave it the same flow as the 6045. I would have just bought two 6025's if I had to do it again. one of my many cheesy uploads on youtube (more...

    suppliments -Calcium and KH.

yes there is no "standard" or normal. how much needed is always based on growth rate and stocking. Dose higher (but not all at once if you need a huge change) until you get ca and alk where you like it within a reasonable range close to seawater (400-500pm ish for ca, 7-11dKH ish, actual...

    quick 2 minute aquarium video

thanks!. been up about a since june 08'. I dont edit because my editing software degrades the video as does youtube uploading. the video cam (sony DCR-HC30 mini DV) actually shoots well and was highly regarded amonst cheap mini-dv's in its time. better than my kodak pocket HD cam indoors (or if...

    Proper dKh?

dont worry about absolute "balance". Balance is based on uptake ratio. Focus on "range". As long as your calcium is within range about 400-500 (which I consider 520ppm close enough) and your dKH within range 7-12dKH there is no need to shoot for absolute balance. there is no real advantage to...

    Firefish Broken Back

all I see is a dorsal fin injury and a flesh wound. lots of fish survive that. when you say broken back for a fish I expected a spinal injury like the rear half 45 degrees from the front half.

    Whos got a Shallow Reef?

get to building! all I had was a cheap electric jigsaw, long ruler, leveler, electric screwdriver and a dremel. had never built a stand before and used online DIY for references. a few hours a evening I had it done is 3 or 4 days. If not any standard 125g, 135g or 150g stand will work (they all...

Is this lighting enough for any corals.

only large species anemone that can sustain is a bubble tip but its not optimal. Not going to support most acro's but there a fair share of lower light requiring montiporas. Your lighting is best suited for LPS which you can keep just about any. not a bad thing since they seem to be "in" again...

    Whos got a Shallow Reef?

how wide is it? a 6ft hundred gallon isn't extremely shallow unless its 24" ish front to back. I had a 6ft hundred gallon and it was 72"x18"x19" it had 175wx2 as well.

    MH Question

not only that I'm almost sure it will overhang quite a bit over a 55g (which is only like 12" front to back). anyhow its a little overkill if you arent planning on going predominantly sps (in which case besides the overhang I think its fine, just add chiller if needed).

    Ick resistant thread

different species do have variable resistance to ich (and parasites in general). Dragonets and eels for example are extremely resistant. Unfortunately I dont know others that are but there must be a few more known.

    Does anyone dip their corals?

I dip all sps in Lugols and do a visual inspection for eggs of any type. I dont bother dipping anything else. I'm only worried about sps (never once had zoa eating nudis or any lps pest and they are usually specific to what they survive on: zoa eating nudi's dont migrate to sps and so forth).

    Ritteri or Bubble Tip Anemone?

stay away from ritteri's. a) they grow way to big for most tanks b) they hardly ever survive in captivity c) if you have to ask dont even think about one. requires high light, tons of flow and prestine water as well. sebae's dont do much better long term.
