    T-5's

that's alot of light. you expecting to keep a sps dominated tank? i think a 250 will do you fine, sps or not.

Got some nuisances! Here's my plan.....

hmm. bristleworms don't need to eat food? their bodies grow longer and fatter without the need for nutrients? they multiply without any food source? i think you are missing something.

    T-5's

i'd go with a halide. it's not that much more heat. if you overdrive the t-5's you'll have to replace them alot sooner. people put too much stock in t-5's. i haven't seen a non-photoshopped t-5 lit tank i liked better than halides. 8 x 24 watts of t-5 overdriven equals how many watts? how much...

Got some nuisances! Here's my plan.....

a wrasse is the answer for the flatworms. reducing your feeding is the answer for your massive bristleworm population.

    T-5's

what are the exact dimensions of this tank? the 24" lamps are only 24 watts. i'm not sure i'd be comfortable keeping clams/anemone/sps under those, individually reflected or not.

    Leaking Aquarium

you aren't going to have a cycle. do yourself a favor. buy dry sand. it will become live soon enough. you can use some of your sand to seed it if you like. all the bag-live sand has in the bag is some bacteria. you already have that on your live rock. it will spread to all surfaces including...

Can a skimmer be too large?

they say that a tremendous amount of skimming can pull trace elements from the water along with the bad stuff, but i don't think it's a large enough amount to worry.

    Mangrove trees

before you guys go through all this trouble, you know that mangroves are a very poor form of nutrient export, right? you need a alot of plants in order to make a difference.

upgrading 46 to 120g need help

well, i'd say the rock still has bacteria on it. it needs to be re-cycled. sand doesn't make the tank cloudy. that's false. there are no downsides to using sugar sized sand over crushed coral. yes, you can rinse your sand. put it in a bucket and fill the bucket with water...swish the sand...

    my latest fish food

i do that every time. as a matter of fact, today i bought 4 scallops, 4 shrimp, some squid tubes, a small handful of fresh clams, and a piece of cod about the size of a credit card from wegmans. they wrap it up with smiles on their faces. they get paid by the hour. what do they care?

upgrading 46 to 120g need help

more than 2 weeks. closer to a month. i would not use the crushed coral. purchase dry, sugar sized aragonite based sand. rinse it well, and add that. it's alot nicer looking than crushed coral. crushed coral will trap detrius and uneaten food very easily, due to it's larger size. you can't...

    Need help with Remora skimmer!

the trouble with drilling the collection cup is that if something goes wrong in the tank, and the skimmer starts overflowing, you'll empty the tank. i would not suggest doing this. i'm not a fan of the remora/urchin skimmer. the one i had did a very poor job. i hope yours works better and is...

    Water Circulation Question

i would choose a 1200 gph overflow for a 180, and a pump to match it, after head loss. i don't think a 600 is enough. your first scenario won't work. you'll probably end up with algae and cyano issues at least. an optimal setup would be to have enough flow in the tank so that uneaten food and...

    red worm with white hairs

they are good for your tank and will not eat corals and fish. i would not get rid of them. btw- if you see alot of them, it's because you are over feeding. cut back on your feeding, and you'll see less worms.

    Protein Skimmer?

the ev series are generally good. not the remora/urchin series. the rio pump is not as good however. is that the stock pump that comes with the new ev-120? if so, i'd look for a different model, or brand.
