Two options, first you can raise the drains on the outside overflow box, so the water doesn't drop as much on the box inside your tank. If this doesn't stop the bubbles from entering your U-tube, you need a bigger return pump. The reason the air bubbles are collecting at the top of your U-tube...

Put a real light on it and you will see what I mean. I originally did the same with the cheap clip on light from HD. It grew my macros, but nothing like they grow with my 65w PC light. I'd say...
The riser tube is the other mod I've done. Very simple to do as well. The standard risers that come straight up and the water falls to the side, put backpressure on the inside of the skimmer chamber that makes the water level fluctuate. This riser tube does not, because it is vented at the...

Thanks.
Enkamat is a matrix of semi-rigid monofiliment. Basically it allows your needlewheel to pull much more air into your skimmer. I'd have to look back at some threads on...

You most likely are overfeeding if you are seeing a significant increase in bristle worms. I would suggest cutting back on how much/often you feed you tank. 6-line wrasse and CBS are bristle worms predators. Arrow crabs may be also, but I'm not 100% certain of that one. If you are overfeeding...
Water movement is the goal. If you have a large enough closed loop it eliminates the need for powerheads. You also have less heat transfer to the tank because of this. If your tank isn't drilled, you just use a peice of PVC and put and endcap on it, then drill many small holes in it for the...
Chaeto is much better hands down, not even close IMO. Mangroves grow too slowly to see any significant effect on water quality. You also must spray them with fresh water each day if you want them to live.
I'm in Springhurst specifically. I have plenty of enkamat left, let me know when and you can bring you needlewheel over and I will mod it for you. Makes a huge difference in performance of the skimmer.
I'm pretty much certain the NW-150 will fit as long as you have some length in it. I own a NW-200, which the company claims to have a footprint of 13.25" x 11.5". Well my NW-200 sits in a 10g which is only 10" wide. If you had 1/4" more, the 200 would fit. It just sits at an angle as long as...
Scuba, I didn't lose everything, just the stuff I actually wanted to keep(acro's, milli's) which was most of the tank. Some zoo's, shrooms, frogspawn, and 4 different monti's were unphased by the tank temp drop down to 66.
Never thought it would happen to me, but it has. Two days without power, and well the coral skeletons tell the story. I'm sick to my stomach right now....
Before pics:
There could be several things happening.
1. Your PO4 and NO3 could both be zero, and of course the chaeto has no food source. If you have any algae in your tank this is not the case.
2. Not enough flow. Chaeto does MUCH better under high flow, but the flow must be laminar. I have a 40X...
I have the same skimmer on my 55g. She is a beast, you will be very pleased. I'd do at least two mods though-wrap the needle wheel with enkamat-$5 mod. And take the riser off, and replace with a Y-shaped PVC riser to vent and make the back pressure constant. This also prevents the water level...
