    Nitrate Reduction

Actually a properly setup reef tank has no nitrates. My 29gal has never had nitrates in 2 yrs and yes I do small weekly water changes mostly for essentail trace element replacement. Check out my Reef Basics page for information for the novice reef keeper: www.spyreef.homestead.com/home.html...

I recommend that you buy a good reef manual before you move further into the hobby. Knowledge is the best way to prevent serious disaster in this hobby. BurnNspy

What supplaments should i use on my tank

Turbo Calc should be used as a booster, Kalk should be used to maintain Calc with the added benefit Kalc will help a skimmer remove phosphates. BurnNSpy

    I still don't understand.

A refugium is any tank with no predators. My reef tank is a refugium right now because i have no fish in it. Now the amphipod and copepod populations are making a come back because they are free to breed. BurnNSpy

    White Particles in Water

What are the water parameters? Something is amiss and its prolly the alkalinity. I only add Aragamilk and Kalkwasser to my reef. I do not recommend iodine, stronium or molybdenum. BurnNSpy

    red baby crab

Its probably a stone crab. Rumor has it that if it has red eyes it is a predator and not reef safe. BurnNSpy

KH & Alkalinity off the Scale--need help

I recommend just sitting on it for awhile, I dont believe there will be any damage to the tank. I recommend using a buffer that will not affect ph(Seachem Reef builder etc). When a reef matures and alkalinity is stable pH stays in the 8.2 range automatically(not with a calc reactor though)...

    leather coral

Yes, some leathers are slightly toxic to other corals. Thats why skimmers are very useful. Over time the other corals should develop a tolerance for the mucus. BurnNSpy

    DSB vs PLENUM

I use a plenum and have for 2 yrs, I do no maintenance and have never had Nitrates. Obviously there is a lot of fiction involved with plenum setups. BurnNSpy

    nitrate problem

Over feeding + Wetdry filter = high nitrates. Adding a DSB will help reduce nitrates also. BurnNSpy
