    Nano with no filter

I would start being consistant with water changes. No one can tell you, oh your tank is going to crash in such and such months because they don't know, it may be fine for years, but we do know that water changes help, they take out the old and put in new, they dilute bad stuff. If you are not...

    Ammonia

Generally cycling with fish is not recommended anymore, but now that you are over the ammonia stage you really don't have to worry about the fish being in distress anymore. I would keep doing 10% water changes once a week, until the nitrite and nitrate levels come down also.

    Ammonia

Yes, ammonia is the first stage of the cycle, once you have enough bacteria to handle the ammonia then the levels will go down, then you have to wait for the Nitrite to go down, then the nitrates will drop some, but usually you will need to do water changes to get them down to under 20.

how do you read salifert kh/alk test

You take the reading off the black rubber end of the plunger, not the liquid, it doesn't matter one bit if you fill the syringe full or if there is a space, I promise, I have tested them both ways and it comes out the same. Saliferts are the best because they are easy and accurate not because...

Do you take a shower/bath in the morning or at night

When I was a zookeeper I would shower right after work, no reason to shower in the morning when you were just going to get dirty ten minutes after starting work. Now being a SAHM to twins I take a shower whenever I think they are not going to tear the house apart if I leave them for 5min.

Teachers Here? Looking For Tank Lesson Plans

i have always thought in a classroom setting a tank that had only aquacultured stuff in it would show the kids how to be aware of the environment, You can get aquacultured rock and baserock to show you don't have to remove stuff from the ocean, find a local saltwater aquarium group and get only...

Pink Spotted Watchman Goby -- DIET

Does your watchmen have a burrow it hangs out in? Most do so I will assume, get a turky baster and spot feed the fish some frozen foods.

Can I add a blackcap basslet?

There is no reason a sixline and a blackcap basslet would fight more than any other type of fish, but some sixlines can be aggressive regardless of the type of fish you put in the tank. Ideally the basslet would have been added before the sixline, but now all you can do is add it and hope for...

    Tank Weight

leaking would have nothing to do with weight, just bad seals. But you do want to make sure your new tank is as level as possible, a tank being out of level puts stress on it and can cause it to crack or the seals to leak after time. Level the stand not the tank.

    too much salinity?????

might not have a lot of luck with snails with a porky puffer in there, they love to eat snails! As everyone else said if you have fish lower the salinity slowly over a few days.

    the truth about feeding?

Very True Jer- I just find a lot of people end up with high nitrates and you can usually follow that back to feeding, if your tank looks fantastic and you are not having any problems then you can feed as much as you want, it all depends on the individual tank and fish. Generally community fish...

    the truth about feeding?

that is why I said this in my first statement: Of course you have to take in mind what type of fish are in the tank, what their feeding requirements are and how much grazing they can do off the LR,

    the truth about feeding?

I feed as much as the fish will eat in about 2 minutes. Most people seriously overfeed their fish. There are tons of things on the LR for the fish to feed off of, it is not like they are not eating if you do not feed them, in fact they are using natural skills if you do not feed them everyday...
