Stop moving them around! Leave them in an area of medium flow and they will open when they are ready. If you keep disturbing them by moving, it will only prolong how long it takes for them to open.

A simple way to do this is to add a small power filter (I recomend an Aquaclear minifilter) to your DT, when you need to QT a fish, take the filter from your DT and put it on the QT. Instant filtration for about $20. After the QT period is over, replace the media with new and put back on the DT...

Harmless filter feeders, the only problem is they can grow everywhere in the tank.

What he said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ If you think about it, its basically the same as putting a powerhead in the tank with some plumbing attached to it.

I agree with Viper, just make sure everything is clean. A hint, when tightening the bulkhead, do NOT allow the bulkhead to turn once the gasket makes contact, only turn the nut. if you alow the bulkhead to spin while tightening, the gasket can get distorted and leak.

It looks more like a Mussel than a clam to me.

You could most likely retrofit PC's into a canopy for much less than buying a fixture. You can also buy LED's for about a buck a piece,and either use resistors witha 12V power supply or a 3V power supply without the resistors as most of the LED's available are 3VDC from my knowledge.

The difference is with a filter, 1} No pods or mysids get through to your DT 2} Your fitler pad is acting as a small filter, possibly creating a small amount of nitrates from the bacteria colonizing the foam.

Have you tried the fixture you have to see if the ends of the tank will be to dark?

I think you would be better with only 2 properly placed outlets from the SCWD. SCWD's do reduce your flow quite a bit, to add Tee's and more 90's to it will only slow it down more. I recently plumbed a 75 for a friend, I split the return, one side going to a spray bar along the bottom back wall...

Do the bulbs extend the length of the 48"fixture? If so, and you center it over your tank, you are left with only 6" of "dead" area on each side. It would probably work. The ends of your tank might be a little dim though. You could always gut the fixture and position the lights in a staggered...

It is used in conjunction with a Reactor and Carbon Dioxide, you only have part of the equipment needed for it to work.
