Okay I have to ask this...

your ammonia level is .25 some test kits just say .25 no matter what, you need to double check that before you start dismantling your tank to take fish out, .25 is pretty low for ammonia, most kits that is the first measurement. .25 is nothing to freak out about. Test a fresh batch of saltwater...

Okay I have to ask this...

ummm the water changes will keep the fish alive while the bacteria grows, it will not prolong that time period, the bacteria will populate even if you change 30% of the water every day. Water changes just keeps things alive without having to move fish around which is a very difficult and...

    Lowering nitrate levels

with a nano tank, water changes are very very important, so is stocking lightly and feeding lightly. If you could list everything in your tank, equimpment, rock, livestock, and also what you feed, how much you feed and how often you feed. Do you use Tap water?

Okay I have to ask this...

the levels are not that high, water changes are easy to do and will fix the problem, moving fish around will stress them out and could cause ich or death. The tank needs to adjust to the new fish, taking them out just makes no sense to me. You should reduce your feedings a lot until your levels...

Okay I have to ask this...

Just do water changes, your levels will come back down. Certainly don't take the fish out of the tank that makes no sense at all. And like other stated get a second opinion, some test kits are really not accurate. I would feed every other day at the most, believe me with 60lbs of rock in the...

Water quality problem, is my 900gph water pump not enough for my 150 gallon fish only

hmm, Are you sure it isn't microbubbles? they tend to look like debris. If it truly is debris floating around then you may need more flow within the tank, not actually through the sump. You can also try putting filter socks on the overflow tubes so water has to filter through them, they just...

Okay I have to ask this...

Suzi- I don't know if you posted this already but: How much, how often, and what do you feed your fish... My suggestion would again would be increase water flow in the tank, if you were thinking of getting a better skimmer do that, and start doing water changes. I would do 20%.

    Do I Really Need A...

Protein skimmers do not remove phosphates and nitrates as well as a refugium, they do help, but the algae scrubber part of a refugium is one of the best methods of nitrate and phosphate removal out there.

Okay I have to ask this...

Sorry but a biowheel is NOTHING compaired to LR and LS, she has plenty of both in her tank she does does not need the biowheel to reduce ammonia and nitrites.

    ph 8.0 good?

More importantly what is your Alkalinity and Calcium level. If those two levels are where they should be and your pH is still 8.0 then it is fine, if alk or ca are low then fixing that will most likely bring your pH up. Messing with your pH level alone is one of the most dangerous things you...

    Quarantine?

JSB- keep some chromis in it, if you have fish in the tank then you are more likely to keep up with feeding and maintenance on it.

    any height requirements for mh?

MH really need to be at least 9" above the water IMO, if water splashes on the bulbs, very bad things can happen.

    Lighting Question

There is no set rule, and really it doesn't matter if you do the dawn dusk thing or just turn them on, it is more for looks if you ask me. A lot of people have the actinic come on an hour before the daylights, then run the daylights for 8-10hrs, and then have the actinics on another hour after...

Okay I have to ask this...

Well there are a lot of differing opinons flying around on this post and I hate to add to any confusion but honestly this is what I think. 1. You do not "need" a hob powerfilter or more live rock or a wet/dry), if you have a sandbed and 40#LR you have plently of surface area for beneficial...

    What do you think?

yes they are very good skimmers.

    What do you think?

That is high for a used skimmer, I wouldn't pay more than $90 and that is if it is in really good condition, you can find one of those skimmers new for around $120.

    MAJOR problem

A few things to do when introducing a new fish into a tank with possible aggresive tankmates. 1. Re-arrange the rock work 2. Feed the tank as soon as you put the new addition in to distract the old fish. 3. shut lights off. 4. If you have a specimen container that water flows through, you can...
