    refugiums or whatever???

NightRaven, I do think that others have discussed (on previous threads) refugium set-ups that sit above the tank and gravity feed into the main tank. Try a forum search, I am sure you will find some good stuff. Good Luck, -Christine :)

    refugiums or whatever???

There are many opinions as to how long to leave the lights on a rufugium. Many people have found that leaving the lights on 24/7 prevents the macroalgae from going into a sexual phase and releasing toxins into the tank. Of course this is not what happens 'naturally', but the natural sexual...

    Sump Overflow Question

You actually want to put the anti-siphon hole on the pipe that returns water to the main tank. Put it just below the water surface, inside the tank, under the water. This will ripple the surface of the water, but I believe that this is a good thing. I do not think that you want a hole in the...

    refugiums or whatever???

I second that James. Dividers help bubbles rise out of the water, hopefully before they reach your return pump and get shot into the display tank. If you dont have a seperate refugium tank, then you also need dividers to attempt to keep sand, rock, macroalgae, etc. out of your return pump as...

    Need Ideas in sumpfuge......

My set-up is nearly the same as the first drawing and it works well so far. In regards to the second drawing, I would think that it would be a good idea to keep the sand and live rock in the refuge and out of the sump. I believe that the sand and rock could be very problematic/ fatal to the...

water level at glass center brace

Jester, The 'U' tube on the SOS is not exactly a 'U'. It is nearly the same, except it is flattened out so that it is wider than tall and somewhat box shaped. Same idea though. I have a roll of film that I am using up right now for pics, sorry no digital yet! I have the boxes set up on...

water level at glass center brace

Oh, sorry I didn't answer the question. I have two seperate overflows, each with a 1 1/4 " diameter drain hose. They are supposed to be rated up to 600 gph, and my pump rated up to 900 gph w/no head pressure. Go figure.

water level at glass center brace

Jester, May I ask what brand overflow boxes you use? I have no problems at all with the Marineland SOS boxes like I have heard about from others who have other brands. Just need more flow. I see Lifereef and CPR make larger models. Any suggestions? Thanks! -Christine

water level at glass center brace

Thanks Jester, Are there bigger overflows? I have 2 already. Should I get a third? I am wondering at this point if it is a little moot if I add another over flow to avoid putting more equipment in the tank (in the form of powerheads). So , it seems that this is a little to high a water level...

water level at glass center brace

Yeah, I think that my pump is alot more powerful than I expected. I can't say enough about how quiet and efficient this Dolphin pump is. Anyway........... Does the water touch the glass cross brace on anyone's (or everyones's) tank? Can my tank run too full???? Thanks for the replies. :)...

    What Glue?

I used tubing and PVC fittings that fit over the ouside of the tubing (the same way as rigid pvc tubing). Then I used PVC primer and glue to attach them. This way, I don't reduce the pipe and restrict the flow at the joints. Holds really well so far. Hope this helps -Christine :)

water level at glass center brace

Broomer, Yes, I have moved the control rods around to see what happens. Basically I have them extended all the way up/ maximum capacity flow now. Anything less than that drops the water level below the recommended level mark in the overflow box and causes great air sucking noises. I 'feel'...

water level at glass center brace

I have a Nature's View 125 gallon glass tank. The tank has a glass reinforcing brace across the top of the tank at the center. I think that this is a fairly common design. So here is my question: I am trying to decide the right flow rate to keep my return pump set at, I have a ball valve...

    Life expectancy of pumps

I am using a Dolphin DP 900 as a return pump for my 125 gallon right now. It is much more powerful than I thought and very, very quiet. It is much more quiet than the Rio 2100 that came with my skimmer, despite the obvious size and power difference. They claim to be more quiet and less hot...

That what I did and it has worked just fine. I have alot of flow going through my (small) sump too. 125 gallon display with a 20 gallon (tall) sump.
