    What type of shark?

To do this whole system properlly, you are looking at spending around $8,000 - $10,000 depending on a few different things. If you do not have the funds to do it right, its best to wait so you can do it right later on.

    What type of shark?

When it comes to custom tanks, normally you go with them becasue of the extensive width / height adjustments. You can normally find good sized tanks *length wise* stock.

    What type of shark?

You claim to know lots about Sharks, however I can ensure you, you know nothing about Sharks until you have first hand experience. With that aside, your 55 is not going to work for more than a few months. Why not wait until you have the 240 before you purchase a Shark. Half the time people claim...

    To all who have eels!

Well before I get into my real post let me start off by saying amazing eels. Now onto this Shark issue. You can read, post, and ask questions as much as you like. But until you actually own a Shark or Ray and have that first hand experience you are just stating facts which anyone who could read...

    265gal stock list w/shark

Well GrouperLover you have a great attitude. Most Groupers do need tanks over 300 gallons to thrive ethically. A 240 gallon Shark tank is going to do nothing for you, as its too small to house almost every species of Shark ethically long term. Only Sharks you will be able to house are Coral Cat...

    A question for swf.com

Ric Maniac - Your 100% correct. A tanks footprint is more important than the total gallonage of water of which it holds. A 2,000 gallon tank could be 10" wide, 10" high, and say 50' long. Yes, it may be 2,000 gallons but no Shark would ever be able to fit in that sized tank. I have seen 350...

Thinking of a small shark or ray?

Depending on the species of Horn yes, however its relative the PortJackson needs atleast 2,000 gallons. Even then, when you see a full sized Eppaulette Shark in a large 2,000 gallon system. You will never be able to find justice in placing one in a 400 gallon. Sharks really do need large tanks...

Thinking of a small shark or ray?

Though Aquarium Sharks & Rays is a great book. Keep in mind the minimum tank sizes he lists for most species is still too small. You will only realize this from actual experience. But species like the Coral Cat and Marbeled Cat Shark need systems of 250 gallons atleast, Brown Banded Bamboos need...

    2700 gallon aquarium pics

Guys, keep in mind the 1,600 gallon aquarium is being made by ATM. A company which builds tanks, obviously a tank made by a company is going to cost more than a tank which is home made. Also the tank for 75K is a custom shape which is hard to do, will require bending / warping. That price also...

    eel attacked barracude

I have to agree with all the posts above. Barracudas get big, they swim alot, are aggressive, and with all of that in mind they need a system way bigger than you can probable imagine of owning. Don't return the eel, return the Barracuda, and get the eel out of the bucket. Please do a little...

    Got 3 new FISH!!!

By not quaratining a fish, you are not garunteed to get Ich. Quaratining fish is a precautionary practice to ensure the main display tank stays diseases/parasite free. However if the fish at the LFS looks healthy, swims normally, eats great, its not a must to quaratine a fish. People reccommend...

    265gal stock list w/shark

The stock list looks great compatibility wise. However I think its a bit over stocked. Panther Groupers get massive, so do Minatious. So you may need to upgrade or get rid of them in the future. For now, if you have great filteration I would say its fine. Becasue remember sharks need amazing...

    265gal stock list w/shark

Well it looks like this thread has been covered pretty much. So just to sum it up a bit. You will need to move the liverock eventually to ensure the Shark has the most swimming room possible available. As well ensure you give the shark some caves , cliffs to hide under and in. As for tankmates...

    sharks and rays

Mike22cha - I will strongly disagree with your statment. No Shark or Ray should ever be housed in something else than 250 gallons. "Aquarium Sharks & Rays" is a great book, however his minimum tank requirments are off compared to what has proven to be a ethical fact. I know this from experience...

SO it was a SHARK Tank what do you think now?

Smoothhounds need ponds ranging from 1,500 - 2,500 gallons depending on the species of them. A 330 would be a great grow out tank however. The way I see it is, I couldn't have a tank without a Shark. I find them to interesting and have a strong passion for Shark keeping. However an aggressive...
