    ID and advice if available

No idea. Hoping someone can give me a good ID, its just weird that if it is a molt, how could we not have seen it until now? By the size of it, maybe about the size of a quarter, I'd say its been there for a little while. We had a Sally for a while, but one day it just disappeared. Could...

    ID and advice if available

Well, after inspecting the tank this evening we found what I think is a molt from crab that I didnt know we had. Could just be dead, but I havent figured a wat to get it out as it is in a cave that I dont think I can reach into. Thats why the pic is so bad, had to use a flashlight to get it...

    Quick pc lighting question.

Thanks Bang. Hopefully this will be the question. After reading Kips thread on true actinics, I'm assuming that what came with the system are not true actinic. Would it be correct to assume that since they are probably just tinted, the phosphurs would be depleted more, due to the dawn/dusk...

    Quick pc lighting question.

Sorry so late getting back. So, at the point Im at now, I should replace 1 then wait at least a month before adding another. Example: Replace 1 daylight this weekend, then sometime mid to late Sept. or even early Oct. replace another--say a true actinic on the opposite side. Then, possibly...

    Quick pc lighting question.

Yes, its 4 x 65. I think I understand what Bang is saying, kind of cycling in a fresh bulb while the other 3 are still producing the proper spectrum and not causing too much of a change at once. A great idea, but my problem is that all the current bulbs are a year old already. Would it be...

    Quick pc lighting question.

Its time to replace bulbs and was wondering about the different types of actinics we've seen. Ultra Actinic and Dual Spectrum, 420 and 620 I think or something like that. As well as some others. Anyone know if these are good or any suggestions on other types? One other thing, should we...

    2 clowns 1 anemone

I dont think you have anything to worry about. It may appear that they are beating the crap out of the anemone, but they are probably just making sure they're covered. We were worried when we added a BTA and our clown, who was fairly large, looked like she was abusing it. She eventually...

    new to reef

I agree with msd2, with 1 exception (no burn intended). We also have a 55 with 4x65 JBJ system and I feel that we have a plenty of diversity. Guess it all really depends on what your ultimate goals are. At this point, just over a year and a half since set up, we are keeping 2 types of...

    !!!Reef in Progress!!!

Do you think you dad could buy us a 90? JK, glad to see that the family is into the tanks. I wish everyone around our house would take more of an interest. If you decide to stick with the CC, make sure its a thin layer thats easily vacuumed. JMO.

Rid hair algea! refugium or phosphate reactor

Do you have any corals or anything in the tank that you dont want to disturb? If not, here's what we did: During a water change session I kept the first bucket of water and transferred some to a clean tub (sterilte or whatever) that could accomodate the largest piece of LR we had. Then began...

is this one a good protein skimmer

We're running a Prizm on our 55 and it does okay, but for a 100g I would go for a better skimmer. Wish I could tell you which would be better, but my experience is limited to what we're running. I'm sure someone can help you better than I, just wanted to share our experience/opinion.

    ID Please

I believe you're describing an asternia star. A very common hitchhiker and not harmful at all. They will come and go, some big, some small--nothing to worry about. Try doing a search under keyword asternia and you should get more info and pics.

    Anemone Lymphocystis?

Dont get discouraged, you can still have a small salt water tank. Remember, as long as we learn, we will make mistakes. I think one of the biggest lessons we all learn is that you cant always trust your LFS to have the answers or best advice. Heck, one of our locals gets rude when I ask...

    Hey smokers...

No problems here...at least no more problems than anyone else may have. We have plenty of healthy coral and fish specimens. I would imagine there is some gas exchange, but I havent noticed any ill effects that would point to smoking as the cause. Maybe someone should make a test kit for...

    Anemone Lymphocystis?

In my limited experience with the sebae, it doesnt sound good. We had attempted to keep one a while back with no success. Ours basically did what yours is doing with the exception of the growth. It shrank, started to wander and met with an untimely death at the hands of an intake pipe. If...
