    Need Help Getting Started

I believe that if you go with live rock a filter is not necessary. Protien skimmers are a personal choice. Some folks go skimmerless and do fine, others insist they are necessary. The current idea in reef keeping is the use of a deep sand bed, or DSB for short. Most suggest 4 to 6 inches of...

    Peppermint shrimp

The only problem I have had with peppermints is that they disapear quickly. I think my fish are eating them before they get to anything in the tank. I put 5 in just over a week ago and no sign of them at all now. :( My coral banded has not caused me any problems at all.. guess I got lucky...

Looking for good LFS in Houston !!!

I use Fishland exclusivly. I like the people there and the honest answers. The fish and corals are generally healthy. I understand that they are not the cheapest store in Houston, but I also know that as a rule, you get what you pay for. For inverts I would reccomend buying them here. I am...

    Emergency!!! Lot's of pain!!!

I was told by my alergist to use meat tenderizer for bee stings and have done so for years. I also have to use and epinepherine pen, as I am very allergic. I have never had any of the experiences mentioned in the other post. I work in critical care and will ask one of the docs at work today...

    Yellow Tang, looks funny.....HELP!

Yellow tangs will change color with different lighting, as do most fish. My yellow develops a rusty strip under actintic lighting. It sounds normal to me unless the white stripe is fuzzy or grainy looking. If so, you may have problems. cyn

    What the devil?

If there is alge on it then it is 'live'. Much of the life in live rock is microscopic. Be patient and you will start to see other things! cyn

    Emergency!!! Lot's of pain!!!

Try making a paste of meat tenderizer and water. Put the goo on your finger and let it dry. It should ease the pain and duration of the swelling. This works somewhat for bee stings too. HTH, cyn

    try this again...

Sounds like what I have too. Someone told me that they are sponges. The only name I ever can seem to get is Q tip sponges. They are round to oval and have a fan on the free end. These things are rumored to indicate excellent water quality, but I can find very little information to support...

Water changes will slow the cycling. Just let it go and keep testing.. Glad to hear you were able to save most of your livestock but sorry to hear of your losses. Cyn
