    My new tank..any help appreciated..long

you are going to need to upgrade your lighting very quickly if you wnat the anenomes to survive. generally speaking, they are hard to keep and are short lived. Your tank will be its own ecosystem and survive a long time if done right. you have been given some good advice, i recommend you take...

    Well, I dove in today....

jw trojan and jamos6 are right, the tank will be more unstable and volitile, but can be done. dhop around online for SW equipment and you can save a bundle. damsels are good to cycle with, but can be hard to catch after you no longer want them. The RAW cocktail shrimp is a good idea and works...

emperor 400 and Penguin biowheel 330

thats what I use, but without the filter cartridges and biowheels. It is goos water circulation and you can pop in filter media as necessary, I also keep the heater in the back. if you have a FO tank, you might need a bit more.

    New Stuff for FlyDan!

flydan, maybe you'll be allright, the most you can do is the best you can. but I would quit taking advise from the LFS. they are beautiful corals though. best of luck.

    flame angels

Maintenance difficulty: This fish is easy to keep. Maintenance: It is important that you feed angelfish all kinds of live, frozen, and prepared formula foods. Best to feed small amounts several times a day. A good formula that can be made at home consists of mussels, shrimp, squid, and spinach...

    buttterfly lovers!

Butterflies are beautiful fish. I'd say you have room for -10 of them. The tank you have now cannot support one of the angels(with existing fish), let alone the other poor livestock you have cramped in there! Please do some reasearch on the fish you have, preferably before you buy them. Tose...

    A word of caution!

I believe what you are using is actually called a surge "supressor", as it will not shut off, but buffer the power to shield electronic equipment from microsurges. Protectors gives it a falsely reassuring context. they are not designed for aquarium uses. some have built in fuses, but are...

    Substrat ?'s

southdown sand is aragonite sand. aragonite sand will slowly dissolve over time restoring trace elements, buffering PH and calcium, etc "regular" sand is nothing more than tiny pieces of glass and is not recommended for a reef tank.

    Setting Up REEF TANK

First off...Welcome to the best saltwater BB on the net! not always the most PC, but still the best you will find! for a reef tank you dont want a UV unit as it will kill bacteria that you want. i have heard that berlin skimmers are the best and just bought one myself, ill let you know. I...

Cloudy Water, Bad Algae, and "film"

until you get the RO unit, I would buy filtered water from walmart or your local grocery store, its .33/gal around here and well worth it. in any case, your tank is young and will do things like this periodically, as well as mini-cycles for about the first year until it gets good and...

    30G FOWLR having problems

Burn, I use JBJ 36x4 =144W PC's, and although I dont have a phosphate test kit, I use RO/DI water. I only feed every other day, unless I have people over who want to feed the fish. I have a LOT of crabs and snails. I have a penguin 400 without filters for water movement and a maxi 1200 that...
