    NaturesOcean or Detritivore kit??

check the price, you can get Natures ocean cheaper online, even with shipping, than at your LFS. My oppinion is you need both. Th LS for the bacteria and the Detrivore kit for the critters. If you dont get LS, you might try Wonder Mud.

Hay all you sandsifting star owners..

if you get one of those, you are wasting the money you spent on the DSB. might be ok for a shallow sand bed, but it feeds off of all the good stuff in the sand. I dont recommend them, regardless of how cool they look.

    Snails, ok?

flame scallops are nice, but in a young tank they will die. you might try to feed it phytoplankton.

what can i do to sift my sand to get rid of red slime algae?

kimmisue: a white sand sifting starfish will slowly DESTROY your DSB as it eats all the little critters that make the DSB work.

    flatworms

Terry B and Beth, There has been an ongoing discussion in the reef section on ridding a tank of curing LR of about 30 or so visible flatworms. Some have suggested a FW dip of the LR, yet others have said not to. This really isnt a disease question, but I thought with your knowledge on tank...

How do you get rid of flatworms

I would try my worst looking rock first and wait a week to see how it fares if you are skeptical. that way you can judge for yourself with minimal risk. if the flatworms explode, I would venture to say that so would your tube-worms, amphipods and copepods.
