I have the same set up as you. 1 hour before and 1 hour after on the actinics and my lights are 3" to 4" off the water. The benefits of the moonlights are debatable

I took some scrap plexiglass and siliconed fiberglass screen to it. I cut it to fit in place of my glass tops and it works great. It lets the tank breath and stops any suicides. I paid less than $5 for all the materials at Lowes.

Okay, here is what I did to solve the glass tops vs jumping fish dilemma. I took some spare strips of plexiglass and siliconed fiberglass screen to them and cut them to fit over my tank. They let the light in, the tank breath and prevent any possible suicides.
