I didn't think LR added to the bio load or deteriorated water quality. I thought it did the exact opposite.

there are no short cuts! The water you bought is no better than the water you could have mixed yourself.

no there is nothing on it to die. you can put it right in your tank and it will be fine

he is just using it as baserock. thats all baserock you buy is, its LR that has died.
