    Using Baserock

Yeah, I would put it in a strainer and rinse off the excess particles if you are adding it to an established tank. However, if you are just starting your cycle, then I would just leave it with as much LR as you can afford for the size of your tank. The more surface area the better.

Where did this hermit crab come from?

I thought that I had lost my hermit when he molted for the first time. He was sluggish before and after the molt. When I saw the molted shell I assumed that he was dead, however, a day or two later he was crawling around as usual. It's really interesting when he hosts a new shell. Have fun...

    Inverts..............

A cchip will get along fine with a pep. shrimp and , I believe, an urchin (however, I have never kept an urchin). Just be carful with a cchip if you want any corals, including mushrooms.

whew - thanks. That's what I thought, but I have too much invested to take a chance!!! I love my fish! Not to mention, it would be really tough to find him in my LR!!! I'll give a cheer to my clean up crew!

    shrimp death

One of my peppermint shrimp died last night...hopefully from old age (he's an old friend). Anyway, by the time I got my net out he disappeared into the LR - should I worry about an ammonia spike? Should I try and fish him out?

    culpera?

I just added a new piece of LR and noticed a little bit of what I believe is culpera. I do not have a sump or refug. to put it in - will I encounter any problems? I have a yellow tang and hermits - will they eat it?

    hermits/mushrooms

Is there any type of hermit crab that will eat mushrooms? I just noticed a few mushrooms on a new piece of LR and my hermit is hanging close (not sure what type of hermit he is...)

    Skimmer Gunk

Mine used to be rotten and brown, which seems to be normal. However, now that I have moved, it's bright green. Things that are different, include - larger tank space, less ambient light & new yellow tang. I guess it must be from the additional herbivore type foods that I'm feeding my YT...

    Veggie clip - necessary?

Waterfaller - I love it here too! Friendly people and lots of fun outdoor activities! Florida is fun, too - I lived in St. Pete for 5 yrs.! I actually have a veggie clip - I'll use it - I just like watching my Tang chase after it!

    Veggie clip - necessary?

For pieces of dried seaweed/algae - is there anything wrong with just letting it float around? My only filtration is a skimmer, LR and powerheads.
