    Nano Trick

I'm not sure how it would affect the lighting, but yes... I keep it open to keep my temps more stable as well.

    NEW 12g aquapod

I've got a 12g aquapod as well. A couple of suggestions... replace the stock pump with a Maxi-Jet 900 - you'll get a bit more water flow and the MJ generates less heat than the stock pump, so your water temp won't fluctuate as much. Keep a close eye on your temp when your lights on on. I saw...

    Sponge or no sponge

I think it's important as a prefilter simply to skim crap out of the water. I have mine cut way down, that way I can skim debris out of the water and limit any potential nitrate problem.

can you run lights too long?

You're right - I wouldn't be running them while the other lights are on. I'd run them from 6am - 8am, when the "big" lights kick on, then from 8pm until 10pm, after the "big" lights go off.

can you run lights too long?

I'm thinking about running my moonlights (2 LEDs) from 6am - 10pm, and my 10k/actinic bulbs (1 27w actinic, 1 27w 10k) from 8am - 8pm. This is over my 12g nano. Any reason why I shouldn't do this? Algae is not a problem for me. I just want to get more light to my corals.

    lights on/off

When you say one cable, do you mean one cord/plug? If that's the case, then setting them to come on at different times isn't such an easy proposition. If you have corals (which judging by your other thread I'm guessing you don't), then you'll want to leave the lights on a bit longer. If no...

Updated pics of my 12g Aquapod

64w - Was that a DIY upgrade kit (2x32 PCs) from an on-line vendor (I know the vendor, just can't say it here)? How do you like it? I was thinking about it, but it's a lot of coin for 10w. How is your temp with the new gear?

    What should I add now!?

What do you want to keep? If you've got all the LR/LS added, my first thought would be fish/clean up crew. Add corals last.

    Aquapod?????

The latest batch of them seems pretty good. I had heard about the early Aquapods cracking, but that doesn't seem to be a problem any more. The only real "issue" people have is with the heat, but there are ways to manage that. I think all the out-of-the-box, all-in-one nano systems have their...

    10 gallon

You probably should have a few empties for them, but I've never bothered with it. I generally order my critters on-line as my LFS has obscenely high prices on livestock, and I figure not everyone will survive the trip, so the dead one will leave their shells for the hermits.

    10 gallon

That's about right at the limit... but if you're careful I see no reason why it wouldn't work. And don't forget some hermits - a diverse clean-up crew is key.

    12 gallon temp

I found that by leaving the feeding hatch open the temps stay much more level. I run about 78degrees with the lights off, 79-80 degress with the lights on. I was pushing 84 degrees with the lights on and the feeding lid closed.
