Nope sorry, tempered glass CANNOT be drilled. All the 10 gallon tanks I've seen are tempered so they can use 1/4" glass on the bottom also.

question: you're using SLIPxFNPT union fittings? I didn't even see such a thing at the stores I was looking, I had to go with SLIPxSLIP unions, maybe I should let the reader know where you found yours?
Later with more LOL,
Paul
question: why do you suggest installing the bulkhead gaskets for the refugium on the "outside" wall?
(more to come as I edit the article I'm sure LOL)
Thanks,
Paul

btw, could you send me a copy of that shopping list you sent on the other thread (damn I'm getting lazy in my old age LOL) Thanks!

yeah but then again slothy one, since you put in the Mh lights, you sit in a black house with all the TV's off and stare at the tank ... OF COURSE you wouldn't see a bump in your electric bill :p

are the powerheads set up to push "air" into the tank? If so, disconnect and plug the air lead. Bubbles are the worst cause of salt creep so if you have any airstones etc. in the tank pull them out too.

Hey there Broomer, decided to start a new thread since we were getting so far off the "closed loop" topic. Thanks for the compliments on the tank :) I really am kinda proud and just wish my photography could do it justice *sigh* My ex and her husband are really good photographers and should be...
Broomer, may I use your writeup on sump/refuge on my website if I promise to give you full credit? The site's not up yet but I'm aiming for a DIY type instruction site. I'd also love to host some pics of your tank if you'd be willing to share :)
Thanks,
Paul

Yeah Broomer, it's a DIY tank and those are tiles you see on the back wall. I used slate tiles and silicon as the adhesive. The tank shell is 3/4" ply and it's sheathed in 3/4" aromatic cedar. Here's a pic while it was being filled the first time :D I haven't got any pics yet of the tank with...
Well Ice, back in the dark ages (mid-70's) I helped my LFS in San Diego build DIY UV units so the quick answer is yes it can be done. Now the problems ... first the water has to make contact with the UV bulb itself which means you have to somehow encase the bulbs in some form of compression...
Nope I don't really if you saw the scrap pvc and fittings in my garage you'd quickly understand that, since this is my first attempt at aquarium construction, it's ALL trial and error! LOL plus looking and reading about all the great things you guys on the board have created helped ALOT ... that...
I agree with Buzz on all counts LOL not that it matters really but I thought I'd throw it in anyway. I'd go with live rock and a DSB (deep sand bed ... do a search on the forums and you'll find TON'S of information) that would negate the need for a wet/dry filter (pain in the butt anyway). The...
LOL beni, with, or without all the errors I made along the way? :D Actually I'm working on my web site as we speak and will have the pics up *hopefully* later today. Drop me an email and I'll be happy to tell you when that part of the site is published at least!
