You can have a fish only tank with CC. The nitrates will be higher in a tank with CC and lower in a tank with sand. I have CC in my tank now and my trates stay around 15 ppm. This is fine for fish only, but if you decide to do a reef, you would want those trates down around 0.

How did you tank water test? Was it dropping the trates in there too, or was it working too slow to make much of a difference?

I'm not going to knock the job that the Coralife Super Skimmer will do, but the pump and the bubble diffuser are pretty good size. In a smaller tank they may be an eye sore. I just bought one for my 46 and I'm sending it back because of the size. I'm looking at an Aqua C Remora now. It costs...

I agree, definately get a skimmer too. I use 2 hang on back filters on my 46. One of them is the same one that came with my set up.

From my understanding, the Remora is just a protien skimmer and not a filter. You will still want some sort of filtration for your tank. I also have a 46 gallon tank and I run two hang on back style power filters.

It should break down and get picked up by the skimmer. I know what your are talking about. I have seen those little poops in my tank too, lol.

You may have better luck with it than I did, but the size of the pump and the diffuser were too large for my tank. I guess if you had A LOT of live rock you could cover them both up. I would compare the size of the pump and the diffuser to a softball. I think my opening on the back of my tank...

How do your nitrates test out in your tank? I think these macroalgaes feed on nitrates.

Mine usually stays on the bottom half of the tank and does not hide a lot. He swims through the rock work a lot, though I wouldn't call him a "free swimmer". I've had mine for over 2 years and he is doing really good. He also put on some size since I first got him.

I also keep mine a little higher at 1.025.

I'm not going to knock the skimming ability of it, because I have heard nothing but good things about it. It just wasn't feasible to use with my set up.
