    Are blacklights harmful?

My wife and I do a huge Halloween party every year and I was wondering if I could put a blacklight on my tank for that. If it's harmful, I guess I could do actinics only, but there would still be a blacklight in the room. What does everyone think?

    What would you do????????

Depends if you wanna add a chiller. With a 150 over a 20L, you'll probably need a chiller unless your house is really cold and you have a big fan, but in that case your evaporation is going to be crazy. I'd say definitely go with the 70 watt if you're going to do halides. That will be 220...

    New 240gallon reef

I'd say a white aragonite bed about 2-3" deep. 240 reqires a lot of sand, so I'd buy most of it dry and just seed it with 40 or 50 lbs of live sand.

    Nassarius vs Ilyanassa Obsoleta

Did some research on your Ilyanassa Obsoleta. They prefer much colder water 54-71 degrees F, and a lower salinity than reef tanks require. They are also more suited to mud flats, areas with very wet clay type substrates, where they are often exposed to air during low tide. They are planktonic...

    rose bubble anemone

Common problem with anemones. Eventually it should find a spot it likes and stay relatively in one place. I think they are looking for the right combination of flow, light, etc.

    clown trigger reef safe?

Not with corals, no. In the wild, triggers use their beak to take bites of live hard corals. They then digest the meat and poop out the skeletons, making some of the most fertile sand in the world. I've never heard of someone being able to get them to prefer prepared foods over corals. Even...

    Coral beauty/pygmy angel?

Thanks for the replies, I'm kinda bummed out since those were pretty good looking angels. Better safe than sorry. I went with a sixline instead.

    Coral beauty/pygmy angel?

Kerriann already posted about a coral beauty and a flame angel, but what about a coral beauty and a pygmy? The guy at the lfs who normally is really knowledgeable and doesn't just try to make a sale said they are different from different genuses (geni?) so they wouldn't fight? I have a CB...

    T 5 question

I think the 6000k might look yellowish. 10000k is the lowest I'd go. But either way, I don't think you could grow the type of clam you're talking about under vho's. The derasa clams, which are more tan/brown stripey, but still really beautiful, can grow under moderate lighting. The blue...

    mushroom size

My dad got some a few months back and the were about dime size. After only a week or so, they were about 2" across! Those blue shrooms get pretty big, I wouldn't worry.

    Good Invert Sand Sifter?

Yeah, nassarius snails are awesome sifters. They go about an inch or so down under the sand, and move around a lot.

Try a low-spectrum pc light or even a plant bulb in a normal output fixture. Cheap is good, as it's not a display light.

    Anemone or feather duster??

Sounds like anemones, based on the fact that they moved. Feather dusters attach themselves to rocks, plumbing, any hard surface and do not move from there. You can instantly tell a feather duster by the hard tube that covers its main body (it's actually a worm) that's parallel to the surface...

What kind of corals dont need lighting?

I have a carnation coral that doesn't require light, but it's extremely difficult to keep. I've had mine for about 2 1/2 weeks now, and it seems to be doing ok. Most people don't have much luck with them, and I'm still worried about mine.
