    What do I use to glue PVC pipe together?

    I may be wrong on this, but I would imagine that regular PVC glue like you would get from home depot would work. Just make sure it is dry before you run your tank water through it. Afterall, we drink water from PVC pipes all the time.

    I ues the Aquarium Pharmaceutical kit also. It seems to give a good reading. I do agree that the low range can be a little hard to figure out.

    How much sustrate?

    I have CC and I have is spread about 1" high. My nitrates stay around 15ppm. When I had the CC at 3", my nitrates were at 40ppm. Get a good clean up crew and a skimmer and it should help keep your nitrates low.

    okay to stack light ballast

    I would space them so that there is air flow between them if you do. I had 2 ballast from NO lighting in a hood and the heat couldn't escape easily. Next thing I knew, my ballast was oozing out melted plastic....of course those weren't MH ballast.
