What happened is that you cycled your tank with a live fish. You probably had an ammonia spike, and it killed the damsel. You need to go to the store and buy a test kit. After your tank cycles then you can add more fish, and be successful. Do you know about the cycle of a sw fish tank?

has the damsel picked on the clown? My damsel used to bit my fish, and leave marks that you couldn't see until she bit it about 20 times. See if your clown has any bit marks. How long has your tank been set up? How long have you had the clown? How long did you acclimate it?
