    dumb newbie light question...

Matt, I would say that they are probably normal output lights. If you can check the ballasts on them and see what they say. Also think about what you want in the tank in the end. I mean if you want corals, what type so you can purchase the lighting you will need just once. If you buy VHO's now or...

About to buy my equipment.. please help

Eggy, Where on long island do you live? I saw a couple of setups in Newsday for under a $1000. I have also seen tanks in there less then that. Your best bet is to read read read and wait for the right tank to come along, that is if you don't want to purchase new. I also agree with fulcrum get...

    arrow crab

I had one in an old tank and he went after every shrimp I had. Maybe he was just a bad seed but after I watched him murder a CBS and two peps it was time for him to return to the live rock at the LFS. Hope yours doesn't do the same.Good luck.

Does anybody know good fish stores in NY?

There is a good fish store in Patchogue on Rt 112 south of Sunrise Hwy. The name is Country Critters. They have a huge selection of corals and fish, but you need to be careful because some items are bit over priced. There is also Pet Warehouse in Lindenhurst right on sunrise Hwy. Not a big...

    refugium

Logan, If HOB means hang on back then that is not the fuge I have. I think my post must have been confusing sorry. The fuge I have is like a ten gallon tank. The water enters from the overflow box into the first section(via bulk head on top) which is 4 inches wide then over a wall to a chamber...

    refugium

Can you run a refugium straight for the overflow box or do you have to through a sump? I have a premade refugium with two small baffles in front of it to stop bubbles from the overflow I think. But it doesn't have enough room for a skimmer or to act as a sump. The problem I have is: a 55G tank...

Thanks Jlem do you like the magnum 350? I have one and was going to use it but I got a good deal on a premade refugium so I decided to go with a sump set up instead of power filtration.

Hello everyone, I am a Newbie and I am getting ready to set up a 55G tank.I have done quite a bit of reading over the last couple of months and think I am ready to start. I am waiting for my overflow to arrive to actually put it all together. My question is: How many PH's and what size do you...
