    tuesday update

I agree with you 2 for only 1 reason...there is lifestock which could suffer. But since I understand Bob wants to prove his macro algae method of nitrate reduction I would like to know the results. Bob, I hope you get those trates down fast so your fish don't hate you and roll over!

    Adding two clowns

Just remembered the other food I use....called Marine Cuisine. I use that, Brine, and Formula 1. I don't have algae eaters, so I don't use Formula 2 yet. All of mine are frozen but I plan to try some flake food soon. But right now, the frozen works better because some of it will sink to the...

    Adding two clowns

Reef, the nutritional value does vary on the brine from what I have seen too. I don't really know the specifics of what it takes, but if you have enough variety in your feedings, you should easily compensate.

    Adding two clowns

Yeah Sinners. I am feeding 5 "small" fish from that cube. Really 4 if the Green Mandarin doesn't get any. Also, I have found that putting the 1/2 cube in the turkey baster works pretty well. Stick in the cube, load it with water and let it dissolve some. They like getting it broken apart...

    Adding two clowns

No prob. I am only about 1 month or so ahead of you. I have had pretty good luck so far. I started with a clown and a damsel. Get tank raised if you can. I don't know which are the most hardy, but I like the Nemo looking Oscellaris the best. Bright white stripes and a bright colored body...

    Adding two clowns

Brine comes in frozen cubes (keep in freezer-- duh) and freeze dried cubes in shelf packages. I use the frozen as do most I assume (fresher). I only have a couple fish so I usually cut the cube in half and keep the other half in a ziplock with the rest of the food for the next day. My clown...

    Protein skimmer question

Thanks. I don't even have one yet, but then again right now I am not exactly running a reef. Mostly fish with a few cleaners and actually only a few small fish. I know I need to get one soon, but I was getting lights first which should arrive today.

which anenome or ????????????? coral ???? or ????

I'm amazed to learn how bad the stats are for anenome survival. Every LFS I have ever been to has them for sale and they always look good. So for a LFS which is basically running a 3000 gal tank is an anenome easy enough to raise and keep, or do they just bet on the fact that it will be sold...

    new tank

Well, back in my college days, you could actually find pirahnas if you were discreet. Some LFS used to sell them as Silver fish. When they are small they look very similar. I think they were illegal in every state around except Penn at the time, but they are probably illegal to sell anywhere...

    Pods ?

Okay.....tell me if this will work Thomas. I have no room at all for a fuge unless I drill a hole in the floor next to my tank. And then I am talking about a 6 foot runup minimum to my tank which would require a pretty good pump. So........ I do have a 20 gal up and running with about 40...

    Pods ?

What if you have 90 lbs of LR in a 55 gal with 270 W lights? But there is also a green mandarin searching for some grub....can they grow enough to keep him fed? He seems to be doing well right now. I spot feed him brine, but he prefers to scavange the rock looking for pods. I am worried I...

    Swf

For overnight shipping via FedEx, you can't beat that $4.99. And as everyone knows, you will pay a lot for your fish anyway. It takes nothing to get to the $75 minimum. Infalable, if you don't have a tang, then I recommend getting some of the shaving brush if you need help getting to minimum...

    20 ppm nitrAtes

Wrong...... they come home bummed cause they wrecked YOUR car. Anyway, as always the advice is appreciated, and more often than you think taken.

    20 ppm nitrAtes

Kip, You are starting to sound like you are harping on this :D I get the picture and will definitely pay attention to how my tank is coming after adding lights. It's not even so much the money, (but it really does count doesn't it). It's sorta just every time I turn around I am adding...

    20 ppm nitrAtes

Kip, I sure hope I don't have algae problems, but at least I will have a good idea of where to go next if I do. As I have no corraline algae to speak of now, when I get my lights when could I expect it to start coming out? Bob, I'm not really sure that water needs to be "live", but doing a...

    20 ppm nitrAtes

Kip and Reef, I don't have any corals yet, so none of this can really sink in. I don't even test for Calcium right now. I guess when I get my lights in and begin to prepare for corals everything will change, but till then I guess the RO/DI can be held off.

    20 ppm nitrAtes

Okay Bob. I think we are still somewhat on point here. I agree with you that to find the "perfect balance" would be much more beneficial to your tank in the long run rather than basically starting with fresh water every so often. But I have trouble believing I can find a perfect balance in a...

    20 ppm nitrAtes

but adding RO/DI doesn't add any trace elements your fish needs does it? I know a water change would add the trace elements from the marine salt, but top-offs with RO/DI aren't really that great are they?
