    Help! My tank crashed

I think you would be fine putting it in your tank. Bob loves it and has had a lot of success with it. Most people just don't like the way it looks. And it grows fast so you have to cut it back a lot. But it is very beneficial which is why people keep it in a fuge. Personally I don't have...

    tank cycling ?

I am not much more experienced than you, but when I cycled my tank I did no water changes. In fact I didn't even do one after cycling because my nitrates were down to 0. But if you do a water change, I would think all it will do is increase the amount of time it will take your tank to cycle...

    Coral Banded shrimp

I've only had mine a little over a week, but all he does is pick at the rocks all day. Seems to be pretty happy and moves around pretty well, so I am not worried.

    Ahhhhhh! My tank is dead!

Good thing regular generators don't cost that much!! If they did, I would have to sit there all day with straws running out of every part of my body I could blow air out of :D Then again this might build up some ammonia as well.

Can you have TOO MUCH circ?

Crazy question, but can you have too much circulation. I have a 55 gal with a canister filter running a 300 gph and two maxijet 900 pumps. trust me, there is a lot of movement in this tank, but is it too much or is there such a thing? So far everything looks good and water flow is important...

    Help! My tank crashed

Personally, (unless I just skipped over it) I am curious as to how long you had the tang and some of the other fish. Maybe the tang was never healthy and died normally and he took out the other fish with the toxic buildup -- especially since you pointed out he was decomposing already. I...

    Bad Feelings about New Tank

Listen to Bob on this. I am of that few minority that was patient on cycling my tank and so far it has paid off. I have a 55 gal and I bought rock on two different orders giving my about 90 lbs. My amonia fell a lot faster than yours, but my nitrites took forever. I am thinking I didn't use...

    Ahhhhhh! My tank is dead!

That extention cord idea only works for a blown fuse. Won't help you much if you lose power completely. I only have a 55 gal right now so no matter what happens, I will be limited in my loses, but I still worry about it. If I ever get a very large tank I will look into a backup generator of...

    Ahhhhhh! My tank is dead!

I have a friend of a friend that this happened to as well. Had a 120 gal tank and lost power a year ago. Lost it all. Only thing I can think of is to actually be prepared with a generator. I would say this seems like a ridiculous expense for something you hope never happens, but with the...

    Fish selection

Speaking of microfauna fish. What do you do to feed a goby. I was reading the fauna and copepods. Do these fish not accept any of the frozen brines/formula 1/ etc I guess I should add that I wanted a green mandarin.

    Size of LR?

Personally, if you are getting the FIJI rock, and you want a good amount of it in your tank, I think you almost have to go with a mixture. I know I have a 55 gal with 90 lbs of LR. I am planning to pull some out to put in my 20 gal, but it is cycling with damsels instead of LR right now...

Cleaners -- Do they add to polution levels?

Mike, Looking most probably at a FOWLR. I have plenty of LR (90 lbs) but I don't have the lighting for corals nor do I think I will be able to get the space required to keep them 8" from the top of the tank. Thanks for the advice about critters. Email is mikersp8@hotmail.com for the info you...

Cleaners -- Do they add to polution levels?

Mike, The original cycle has already completed. I just added a few fish before the weekend. (1 osc clown, 2 damsels - which are going to be moved to a 20 gal to cycle it when I get my pumps in on Tuesday) My levels are 0 ammonia, 8.2 ph .5 trites and 10 trates. The little spike occurred...

    How much to feed?

As for the tank, it has been up and running for about 5-6 weeks and has cycled (twice actually since I added 90 lbs of LR in 2 stages). It is a 55gal and the fish are new additions, but the LR and DSB have already cycled. Right now, as stated, I am feeding only 1/2 chunk of frozen food per day...

Cleaners -- Do they add to polution levels?

If I wanted to add a cleaner crew to a tank which just had fish added, how long do I need to wait? I don't know if they would help reduce ammonia, trites and trates by cleaning up the mess, or make things turn into a bigger mini cycle by increasing the bio-load too fast.

    How much to feed?

I am a newbie and some reason I can't get a good amount on how much to feed the fish. I just bought my NEMO and a coral banded. I also stuck 2 damsels in there that I will be cycling my 20 gallon tank with. I have frozen brine and Formula one chunks, but how much should I put in? I read that...

    Emereld Crab Problem??

With all this molting going on, what do you do with the molts? Leave them in the tank or fish them out? Just curious cause I plan on getting a bunch of scarlets next week. Also, for a 55 gal DSB can I handle a 10 pack of scarlets and 20 of the cerith (sp?) snails as my cleaners? I wanted a...

    Live rock?

Guys, I have been in the same shape as you 2. I have so much brown algae in my tank, that it looks like the wood framwork around it. But the algae must be helping because my trites and trates are finally down. I am going to get a NEMO tonight and a cleaner shrimp. Next week I am ordering my...

    Setting up 75g

Hey Kip, I'd love to get you to send me some. I'll email you with my info. It would really help with the nitrates in the long run from what I have read anyway. I guess this will just mean I won't be getting that yellow tang anytime soon. I could keep some in the 20 gal I just set up just to...
