    help with anemone and clown!

Thanks for your help, yeah, it does seem to have gone through a cycle, it's inflated again, and now the clownfish have really dove into it. I really hope that I can keep it alive, I've heard bad things about keeping anemones-even in optimal conditions, but I really wanted to give it one chance...

    clear bubble on sand??

If it's a new tank, you'll have that and they'll clear up. Otherwise slime algae will cause a lot of bubbles to form (it produces oxegen).

    Jawfish eating habits

Thank you for the help, I'll try to get him some more varied food today. If they enjoy copeds then he should be pretty happy though, because I just added a live rock that was full of them, and my sand bed was literally moving the other day becuase there were so many of them crawling around. Is...

    Jawfish eating habits

For those of you that own a pearly (yellow) headed jawfish, what will they eat? He doesn't eat the flake food that passes by (I didn't really expect him to), but he does nothing but spit out the brine shrimp too. I can tell he's getting really hungry (hasn't eaten since I've had him for about...

How to build an active fish tank?

My clowns definitely have more personality than any other sw fish I've had experience with. They are very curious and constantly swiming around the tank. They even seem to know who I am, because everytime I get close to the tank they flip out and come to the top expecting food, they don't seem...

how neccessary is a cleaning crew?

MLM, You mentioned that the cleaning crew keeps the sand sparkling white, what do you have that does that? Any suggestions? Not a single thing I have has left the rock work since I've had them (about a month)! My rock looks really nice, but my sand is really looking horrible. What are some...

    Gone to hell....

The phosphates and nitrates are important (even though it's what everyone asks), along with what are you replacing your water with? Are you using ro, or tap? But I will tell you that in my experience I had 0's on both phos. and nitrates, and when I changed my lighting the tank just exploded...

    Water top off system

Thanks wamp, seems easy enough. If I wanted to dose kalk through this I would want to put the hole a couple of inches from the bottom correct? And would I want to punch an air hole in the top so the water would flow out, or would that ruin the kalk (sorry, I haven't had any experience with kalk...

    Water top off system

Can anyone help me find plans for a simple gravity fed water top of system? Every where I look I only find complicated ones that involve an air pump to drive the water out. Is there no way to make a dosing system simply using gravity? I would like to use one of the 2.5 gallon jugs that I get...

    Ritteri or carpet

Thank you for your imput and your honesty Mark. I hope you understand that I wasn't saying that I didn't believe you or value your imput, that's not the case at all. I'm sure you're probably right, I can imagine that most of the people that have told me that have gone through more than one...

    Ritteri or carpet

Yes golfish, I have read that article a couple of times, and it really did keep me from getting an anemone for a long time. But then I've talked to a ton of people at the lfs-not employees-(I spend a lot of time there) that have told me that they've all kept them successfully for a long time...

    Ritteri or carpet

I really would like to get an anenmone, and my lfs has two that I really like right now. They've had a beautiful striped carpet for over two weeks now that just looks very healthy, it's honestly the best looking anemone that I've seen in real life. The only problem is it's already about the...

    Jawfish

My sandbed is just a little over four inches deep, so I think he's ok there. A mate does sound like a interesting idea, but is there a way to tell the diffence between a male and female? Or are they like some other fish that will eventually become the opposite of the other fish in the tank...

Who/what got you into this hobby?

I had been keeping fresh water fish for a long time, but they were starting to get boring. I had successfully raised quite a few groups of fry and I wanted to do something more challenging. Then my fiance cheated on me with a guy at work, and ended up leaving me. I was heart broken, and I had...

    Jawfish

I just got a very small pearly headed jaw fish for my tank. I'm really glad I got him, he's a lot of fun to watch, but how much excavating do they usually do? I thought they made a home just a little bit bigger than themselves in the sand, but's he's already dug out two big (at least 4" by 4")...

    Help!!! Green hair scare......

The phos-zorb sponges do work well too, mine was an aquarium pharmasuticals brand. I had started with tap water (didn't know any better), it took it about two weeks, but got my levels down to zero.

    Drilling a glass aquarium

Thanks for the information, I was hoping to do the same thing myself. Please let us know if it worked for you, and how you did it. And does anyone know where to get these bits? I haven't seen anything like them in a hardware or home improvement store.

Thanks ed, that's all I needed to know, now I just wish one of my lfs carried the venturi model.

    Bak Pak upgrade/Rio 800

I have been told on this board before to add a rio 800 to my bak pak skimmer to make it work better. My question is does the normal 800 come with all the venturi stuff that the 600 did? And do they have the same size outlets?
