Tank size vs. number of fish for QT

I have about 75-80 lbs. of LR, 50 lbs. LS, one serpent star, a skunk shrimp, some hermit crabs and a load of snails. My question is if I remove the LR and invertabrates, how will my LS be affected by the hyposalinity? I'm sure whatever inverts that I can't see in the sand will probably die...

Tank size vs. number of fish for QT

I've got a maited pair of Perc. clowns, a hippo tang, a pigmy angel, a domino damsel, a 6 line wrasse, 2 small chromis's, a firehead goby, a mandarin and a sand blenny. Ok I guess that's only 11 but still enough. Had a QT tank set up but my Newfoundland dogs were chasing each other through the...

What Other Animals do you have???

In our house we have 3 Newfoundland dogs, 1 cat, 2 dwarf hamsters, 1 singing canary, (1) 65 gallon FW tank, (1) 55 gallon SW reef tank and (1) 29 gallon SW seahorse tank. My 13 yr. old daughter also has a lil 5 gallon FW with 3 "googly eyed" goldfish (her words, not mine). People say we have a...

Tank size vs. number of fish for QT

:help: I've got 13 fish in my 55g saltwater reef tank. I need to put them all in a QT to get rid of ich and am wondering what size tank should I have to accomodate that many fish. I don't want smaller ones to die because of lack of space and territorial behaviors of other fish. Any...

    $$$$$$

I've got a mated pair of OC's and my LFS sold them to me for $35. I've got to say that they are one of the few places that have not tried to "take me for all I'm worth"...which right now is not saying much. Anyone with a salt or reef tank will understand cause we're always broke from buying...

My clown is not exactly eating

I feed my sw fish flake food, emerald entree's, live brine shrimp, seaweed and supplement with Kent's Zoe Vitamins, Minerals and Trace Elements. That way all the fish get something that they like. Here is my list of fish... Mated pair of Perc clowns 1 Hippo Tang 1 Fire Goby 2 Chromis's 1 Pigmy...

    Pics of your new tank

I got real lucky. I found LR on the online auction everyone knows. I got lucky and found that the person selling it lives in the same town. Ended up getting 60+lbs. LR with lots of corraline algae on it for $83 and he threw in T5's with 10 and 20k actinic bulbs that fit my tank perfectly...

    What is a Fuge?

I have a 29g SW tank with seahorses only. They require brine shrimp to eat. You can either buy the frozen brine and then add a vitamin/mineral additive like Zoe or buy live brine shrimp from your LFS. A good size net of live brine shrimp run me about $2. You can also buy the eggs to make...

    Need some suggestions

Another thing to think about as well is the distilled water you are using. When distilled water is being made, it runs through copper pipes which are not good for a SW reef tank or a FOWLR. Consider going to a store that has the Culligan water machine. For me it's 39 cents a gallon and it's...

    Anyone have a spreadsheet checklist?

Well, I feel stupid asking, but if you could send me the spreadsheet as well, I would appreciate it. The link would not open up for me for some reason. Thanks in advance... mrs_b61401@yahoo.com

    New 55 Gallon Reef Tank!!!!

With your leather coral...you said in the morning that it stretches out. I was wondering if you need to place it higher up in the tank. When I used to work at a LFS, we had to place the leathers higher up in the tank because they seemed to like the light. Just a suggestion.

    green algae overrun

I would suggest you get more crabs and snails and maybe a serpant starfish. What kind of water flow do you have in the main tank? I have noticed in my own tank, that when there is not enough water flow, algae will creep up at a faster rate. I just re-position my powerheads and clean and that...

    filters,power heads,sumps?

I would suggest you get a pre-drilled tank and an overflow kit first thing. If you don't have the money for the pre-drilled tank at least get an overflow kit (there are kits that hang over the back of the main tank). I'm in a current situation where I need to purchase an OF kit because I can't...

Why do my tangs look like they have sand all over them

I haven't look at your specs, but one question I would have is what kind of substrate do you have? If it's LS, have you tried a turkey baster to see if it's sand on the fish. Highly doubtful, but just a suggestion. I'm having ich probs right now with the hippo tang that I have and so have...

what's the 1st thing you wish you had known

Where do I begin....First of all, I would have had my tank pre-drilled for the overflow and had some form of closed loop system in place before I started. Decided to start a refug. ( a DIY project) and bought the mud, more LS and some macro algae from someone with an established tank, and a...
