How long did you (honest answers please) to get your first invert/coral?

4 years. Switched from FOWLR to Reef.

    hang-on refugiums. . .

Tangs and macros usually dont mix. <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" /> I have an ecosystem HOB. Its ok but there is not much space to grow the macros. I have only had it running for about a month now so I cant really say anything good or bad about it.

    Red Slime algea bloom

Red slime is not an algae but rather a cyanobacteria. The products like the one mentioned above are usually an antibiotic designed to kill bacteria and not algae. It may however kill some of the nitrifying bacteria that developed during the cycle process of your setup. Yes phosphates can still...

    red slime algea

Some one mentioned above that a skimmer is not a miracle worker and I agree. Will it eliminate the red slime? Lets just say that a skimmer will help reduce the nutrients red slime needs to grow.

    do fish fins regrow?

I have seen fins grow back on several different fish and as mentioned above it didnt really take long. I agree with others also that I would just let nature do its job.

    Slime algae (sigh)

There are antibiotic products on the market that will kill that stuff fast. But the downfall is you may kill some of the nitrifying bacteria as well. The other thing is the product is probably just a patch and not a fix for the slime algae. If conditions are right after the antibiotic wears off...

    red slime algea

There is another post asking the same question about the skimmer. Check it out and get some ideas. As for myself, I use the seaclone and am happy with it.

    coral placment

I came home from work one day to find my torch stinging the crap out of my elegance. The elegance didnt handle the sting to well and is now receding from the base. From personal experience I say those two are best kept far apart. Each branch on my torch when retracted is only a little larger...

    feeding cleaner shrimp?

Mine eats when I feed the fish. He is a quick little sucker at feeding time and gets his fair share of food.

    algea

One of the best ways to reduce slime algae is through a reduction in nutrients. Use of a protien skimmer, not overfeeding the fish, snails and hermits, using only filtered water (RO for example) for top off and water changes are some of the ways to reduce nutrients. Slime / cyanobacteria can...

    red slime algea

Some of the best ways to reduce nutrients in the tank is through the use of a good protien skimmer, not over feeding the fish, and by only using high quality filtered water (RO water for example) for top off and water changes. Red slime can be siphoned out fairly easily through the use of an...

    filter questions

If you are happy with what you have and you are having no problems then why change? I started using the ecosystem to help combat a hair algae outbreak. It is still too early for me to say if it lives up to the claims.

    red slime algea

Red slime / cyanobacteria can be killed quickly with an antibiotic. I have never used this method but many respectable people on this board have and claim to be successful.

    FRESHWATER DIPS

With a bowl or tub or small tank filled with feshwater, dip the fish in. The water of course should be clean filtered water like RO water. It is also best and a little less stressful to the fish if the temp is the same as the saltwater from which the fish is removed and also the same PH is best...

    Damaged Corals?

I guess it all depends on how badly "damaged" they are. I have seen some soft corals like colts and leathers recover from minor damage like a small tear or a small area of bleaching. Hard corals seem to have a little more difficult time recovering. For 5 bucks if the coral is not too far gone I...

What type of shrimps do u have

Cleaner shrimp He eats food that is given to the fish including flakes, frozen, and live. As far as cleaning goes I have only seen him on my tang. My temp is almost always between 80 - 84. PH I try to keep at 8.2. I have 2 emerald crabs and no problems with the mix of crabs and the shrimp. I...

    clowns

viper2oo7, I think its kind of hit or miss with mixing clowns and there are many variables to consider like tank size, amout of LR, and types of clowns. I ran a 29 for a while with 3 clowns. A tomatoe, a percula, and sebae. They all got along great at first but a few months later as the tomatoe...
