    Happy B-Day twoods71

Thanks for the B-day wishes. Yes the shark thing was very nice. :) The wife got me a nice screwdriver set (can never have enough tools) and this weekend we are leaving the kids with my mom, going to Seaworld Orlando and staying at the Ramada.

    Undergravel Filter?

I am not a big fan of the old UG filters. I once had one in a FW setup and when I took the tank down there was some serious sludge built up under the UGF. I dont think the stuff was to healthy for the system. If it were me I would pass on the UGF and save the money.

Who introduced you to this hobby?

A co-worker that told me I could convert my 29 FW to SW for about $20. Well after adding a 0 to the end of that price quote I started my journey in the SW hobby.

    opinions please

Using base rock is fine IMO. Many people have used a combo of base and live rock, myself included, and have had great success. If money is no object to you however why not just go with all live rock?

    Glass scratch

Bummer. I have not heard of any scratch fixes for glass, sorry. :( One thing that might help however, depending on the size of the tank and other variables, is to make the front of the tank the back. Kind of just rotate the tank around moving the scratch to the back.

    New Start Up

Dont be intimidated by saltwater, its not that bad. I felt the exact same way when i started keeping SW fish over 5 years ago. A co-worker came by the house, saw my FW tank and said if I wanted too I could convert to SW for about $20. Well the first thing I learned was that $20 in SW dont go...

Blue spotted Puffer hooked on live brine

I know the fish are not related but I had a cardinal that did the same thing. He would not eat anything except live brine for the longest time. I finaly got him to eat frozen blood worms, but you said you tried that already. Are you using pure blood worms or is it a mix of some sort? Many fish...

Adding Freshwater to top off salt tank

I place a bucket of water on my hood and let the water slowly siphon down to the main tank using a small hose. Simple but it works. And like others my fish also seem to be fascinated with the freshwater. <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" />

What to feed my True Percs.?

When I first got my percs it took them about a week before they would eat anything. Then they slowly started accepting food. Now they eat anything i give them. One thing you can try if available to you is live brine. This seems to stimulate feeding in most fish. I like to offer different foods...

    Ecosystem Filter

I have had one up and running for about a month now. Too early to say if it lives up to the claims but so far so good.

    help with refugium

I've got one of the eco systems. Wasnt sure if it was worth the price but what the heck I gave it a shot anyway. It has been up for a month now and some of my hair algae is actually receding. Very slowly but it is going away. The little bit of red slime I had is totally gone. And the ever...

    coral surpise!

Man if I went away and came back and seen my wife added a few corals I would be so happy I wouldnt be able to see straight. I think it is a great idea you have for a surprise. I think I would go with some shrooms and maybe some polyps also. Both are usually resonably priced and relativly hardy...
