what is a refugium and what is it used for?

Refugium, a safe place. Place for raising pods (great natural fish food) good place for macroalgae for nutrient export. Running the lights over the refugium on a schedule opposite the main tank helps stabilize the PH. I haven't noticed a down side to having a refugium.

Hair Algea out of control - Help

I don't think it is your VHO's, I run 4 of them over my 55. I have them on 10 hours a day, and have never (knock on wood) had a hair algae problem. I do regular water changes on have rowaphos in the tank (the best for phosphate IMO). Phosphate test kits don't give you the whole story...

Best time of day to test water?

Wait to test PH until your lights have been on, at least two hours, then test at the same time each time you test, this will help.

how many hours should l leave the lights on!

I wouldn't leave them on more than 10 hours. Having the light(s) on a timer are a big help. The anenome is going to require much more light IMO. Hope this helps

How do you catch fish in tank?

If you take a small (20 oz.) plastic water bottle, wide mouth if possible. Cut the top two inches off, ivert it and put it mouth first into the base of the bottle drop some brine in the bottom put in on the substrate and wait for the fish you want to catch to swim in, they can't easily find...

Is this REEF life during hypo?

I think it depends on how "hypo" you are, what is the salinity? I did "hypo" on accident when I did a water change with fresh water. The lfs put water in wrong containers, but I should have checked. Mine was at 1.019 and gradually brought it back to 1.023 over the course of 4 weeks. During...

    spot feeding shrooms?

It is my understanding that you do not need to spot feed mushrooms. The light they recieve is enough, along with filterfeeding. I suppose you could spot feed. But I don't think it is necessary.

    Mixing up new water

Probably no need to anything, but it would be best to let the new saltwater "cure" for at least 24 hours.
