No I'd get a different tank, my 20 long is already a reef with fish & Corals. Guy at the store I go to has some in a 10 gallon & was pondering the idea of doing them, they seem to be high maintenance so I may be holding off on them.

Hard to tell definitively but it looks like a cowrie, hitchhiker. Shouldn't be an issue.

I had one last year that was constantly trying to eat my snails & zoo's, Was always pulling shell from under him. Finally sold him to someone who was putting him in a fish only tank. Beautiful starfish that will constantly consume anything it can cover over.

You answered your problem & also contradicted yourself in the same paragraph honestly when you said it never really cycled then saying you wouldn't blame the cycle.
