    Pix of my 150 FOWLR

I would put a lot more LR in there and do some really cool aquascaping, you have so much potential with that size tank.

    Bland looking tank

I added some cheap plants for my tang to munch on and plenty of LR and dead corals.. aquascaping is important, giving protection and caves for fish and making it look appealing.

Odd question here.. Do fish like to be petted?

My cleaner shrimp likes to give manicures. You have to ask yourself, why are you petting your fish? Maybe you need a cat or dog. I wouldn't recommend putting your hand in the tank unless necessary. I worry about detergents, soaps, sweat, or chemicals on my hands everytime I put my hands in...

    stocking my tank

Whats the point of having a tank with no fish? Starfish are about as exciting as watching paint dry and I love my cleaner shrimp and all, but the idea of a reef tank is variety and so people look at it and think wow, not "what the heck is in there?" or where are the fish? I'd have a clown...

    My First Fish!!!

If you know what you're doing, then you can have success with all those fish. Tangs are hard and yellow ones can be aggressive. If the cardinals stay at the bottom it is better than them floating near the top, they are midwater fish, but they are more vunerable at the top. Bottom is safer. It...

    my 55g & I are newbies

You can use the shrimp method or add a bacterial booster to start the cycle. I would use both and add LR soon. Don't add fish until you test water and are sure it's cycled. Main problem most beginners make. You should start with a pair of clowns, they are hardy and relatively cheap. Remove...

    Butterfly Fish

I would say the tank size is more important than how old it is. As long as it's eating at the LFS and you think it has enough room, go for it. 12g is a bit small, I'd go with a clown, firefish, goby, fish that don't mind small tanks.

    help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Age of tank is a bit young, I hope you cycled it first. pH is a bit low. Someone will chime in soon, if stuff dies pull it out right away or amonia will spike and kill everything. Also include more info, like fish and inverts and anything else.

    55g Tank

Watch out for the tang police! If you get a small enough one and have plenty of vegetation and rock work, then you should be ok for a few years. The yellow ones are meaner. Start off with the clowns and do research on the others. Add two fish every two weeks until you have reached your limit...

    Prewash sand?

I tried using a strainer and tub and it still made my water cloudy and I had to siphon off a layer of dust when I first set up my tank. I don't know why they don't prewash it before selling and it caused a big head ache so the better you can wash it, the less stress later.

    Fresh Garlic vs Garlic Extreme

With a delicate fish like that you should purchase from a LFS and watch it eat before buying. Try a mix of foods, good luck.

    Help!!!

First off, you need to do more research. You wouldn't want to have a star or dragonet in a new tank. When things die they screw up your chemistry, especially on a small tank. Substrate is the sand or cc on the bottom.

    Film on surface water

Take a plastic cup and push it into the water gently until water from the surface is pulled down, you can get the scum off the top this way, I do it once a day because the dried krill leaves a bit of an oil slick. You might have to do it more than once to get all the stuff off the top.

clown fish dead after 3 weeks help

Sounds like you never cycled it. If you did then your levels are way off. You need more details like LR and how much and everything else you can include.

    All Dead!!!!

Ut-oh, tang police! We should tell saltwaterfish.com to replace the info. on the tang and make it a million gallons so there is no more controversy. Sorry you killed all your fish. I would be more careful when doing a water change. I just did one yesterday and it was about 5-6 gallons and I...

    Quick ? about my cycle

Don't add anything living until you are sure it has cycled, unless you want to roll the dice. Run your filter, heater, and powerhead during the whole cycle, clean out filter, wait until all levels are zero, then toss in a couple of clowns. You can vacuum out the debris/diatoms when you do your...
