for people that are actually trying to learn something here, and not just bust other peple's balls, i found an interesting thread on the much larger forum. just do a search for "help chalices are melting away" in the lps keepers forum. apparently they are leaning towards the parasite and to the...

    algea problems?

i agree with bizz. you don't need to add critters to the tank. also, red "hairlike" algae coule be cyanobacteria. nothing eats that. vacuum it out with waterchanges.

    how long do skimmers last?

it's all about the pump. that's the only thing that fails. unless of course, the acrylic is broken. a good quality pump should last multiple years. does it come with a pump? what brand/model pump is it?

    RAR...what is it?

i'm talking about acan lordhowensis, and how you can purchase a completely healthy colony, put it in your tank, and it does well. it eats, it's fully inflated, it looks beautiful. then all of the sudden, it starts rapidly receding, and gives you no explanation why. i have named this RAR- rapid...

found a starfish!! got an id?

i don't think it's a sand sifting star, but if it is, i believe the fact that it's on the glass indicates that he's having trouble finding food, or is stressed from everything that happened to him recently. i don't know how true it is, but i heard from an unreliable source that if the tips of...

if you have "About a dozen BIG bristleworms" living in your rock, i'd say they are getting plenty to eat.

    Dnitrification Via Live Rock. Maybe

this is the first time i've heard to add more live rock if you have elevated nitrates. i was always taught to find the source of the nitrates and correct the issue that way. meanwhile, if you have nitrate problems, i'd say you have nutrient rich water capable of sustaining bacteria. adding new...

    filters galore!!

i would use the cannister initially, to clear the water of the sand and rock debris, and then remove it. i would use the super skimmer 125 only. don't go by what these components are rated for by the manufacturers. they tend to exaggerate.
