Thank you all for the encouraging words. I've only started reefing about 2 yrs ago and this is only my second tank. Patience and planning have been my protocol as well as hours of reading through various thread here and on other forums. I need to get a new FTS to show how the pistol shrimp...

Purple is my favorite color. I think flow is the reason for good coraline growth. I want to replace the power heads that I have with one vortech but that requires some dough.

That is the smallest version of the Super Skimmer and it does a good job for the bioload and the amount that I feed. I used the same model as a hang-on-back on my last tank and had all sorts of issues with it. It would never keep a constant water level in the reaction chamber, venturi would...

    SOVIETTACO's 24g Nano-Cube Diary

Those are blastomussa merleti. I have a piece very similar to yours. They do benefit from occasional feeding of cyclopeez, zooplankton, or mysis. I am curious as to what you paid for it, as I've seen some in LFS's that are charging an arm and a leg. Dont feel inclined to answer that if you...

    Protein Skimmer help

Order some uniseals and drill some holes. It can turn your skimmer into a new animal. I hacked at my CSS65 and made it into an overflow fed, recirculating, mesh modded, intake bored not half bad piece of junk. Maybe spent $20 on the transformation. The mods solved all of the issues with over...

    question about temp

get some fans to blow across the surface of your aquarium. That will cool the water through evaporation and depending on how strong the fans used, could lower the temp by a few degs.

    question about temp

Some coral reef environments have water temps reaching close to 90 degs. So I have no doubt that you could have a tank that ran at those temps. It is the temp. fluctuations that you have to be worried about. If your tank would drop to the low 80's at night and raise to 87 at the last part of...

    Star fish come out!

At night, take a piece of shrimp and stick it into the sand bed. That gets my echinoderm active.
