what to cycle a tank with

It is my understanding from reading a thread at www.seahorse.org that Sydney Seahorse was banned from saltwater.com. I decided to search for this thread and do not understand why a member of this forun would be banned just for expressing another way of doing things. I would personally like to be...

    Tampa Bay Saltwater

There have been many post regarding TBS LR, just do a search and there may be some in the archives. But , Yes, I have puchased 120# of LR from them over 3 years ago and I really was/am happy with it. It is covered with life, but it comes uncured, so expect to go through a major cycle. Just about...

    keeping a mandarin alive.

I have a pair of mandarins in my 55, but I also have about 145# of LR. The thing is, I am sure they are eating pods, but they relish frozen thawed blood worms. I get the Hakari brand as they are enriched and both of the mandarins will come out from were-ever they are and really hunt them down...

    ID help please (pic)

Forgot to add that it is not sea mat. Sea mat polyps are always attached together by a "mat" ..hence the name :) hard to tell the difference sometimes ;)

Looks like zooanthid/bottun polyps to me. Nothing to be concerned about(they are good..free rag YEAH), they will reproduce to form a nice colony. I bet the rock was next to them in the main tank before you bought it. BTW, I cant beleive(not calling you a liar..saying you got lucky)that they gave...

    Off Topic...Kinda..sorta

I lost an anenome a few weeks ago and I have decided that I will not try to keep them anymore. As I sat here thinking about it, I realized that I dont have anything in my tank that really requires MH lighting. I bought the MH lighting system because I wanted to keep anenome, but he's gone. I...

Does this sound like a good deal to you?

You could purchase everything new for less then that. I was just looking at a 125 with pine stand & canopy and striplights as well as the glass folding tops at a chain retailer and the whole thing was under $900.

    xenia after 2 weeks

I had to laugh...I went to a LFS in Lansing and they tried to sell me a piece of pulsing Xenia about the size of a quarter for $60! I just laughed at him and left without buying anything. This guy knew that I had some money and drove almost 3 hours to get there, he must of figured I didnt know...

    Man down! Man down!

There are several, you just dont know what your clowns may like. Even if you get a toadstoll, yours may not use it. I know there are alot that have used colt corals as host, but then you just never know. What corals do you have?

Message board is slower than ever. Still working on it?

Cap'n pete, It works both ways. I do not have any problems with the new server. Just because some HAVE the same problems as someone else does NOT mean that "they" DO have problem with the server.

    Man down! Man down!

Clowns do not require an anenome to be happy. There is great debate about wether we should even be keeping anenome, though I have had a few myself. After losing about 3 in a 3+ year reef career, I decided not to keep them. My clowns are very happy using my toadstool as a host. In fact, they...

    yellow tang

What are you feeding your tang? Discoloration or loss of yellow color can also be attributed to the lack of proper nutrition. I am not saying that you are neglecting your tang, but the lack of proper diet is a possibilty. They need there greens for their yellow ;)

    Anyone know of Anenome Crab??

I had one when I had my anenome, when the anenome doed he host in my colt coral. I had him about a year before he disappeared. He didnt have any problems living with the clowns either in the same host. I really liked him and mine was always visible, but since I wont be buying another anenome, I...

    Coralline Algae

Just remember that your "dead rock" will have a huge die off and if put into your tank will start anotehr cycle. Not sure how big your aquarium is, but your "dead rock" will actually make a great base rock when you purchase new. You dont need alot of new live rock to seed your other rock either...

Colt Coral and Christmas Tree Coral

Christmas tree coral does not have symbiotic algae and therefore doesnt really require the high light that some other corals require for feeding. Just remember that because the symbiotic algae is absent, that you MUST feed this coral for survival.
