    looking for a mate

Thank you so much for the regrets and the info. I will think it over before going ahead with another female. Are there any sources for tank-raised banggai?

    looking for a mate

Hard to tell if you don't have two. When they get older, the male's jaw will become sqaure and the female will be the larger of the 2.

    looking for a mate

I'm so sad tonight. I lost my female Banggai today. She and her mate have been in my tank for almost 5 years, and have mated several times. My questions are 1)Will the male accept another mate? 2)If so, where can I find a tank-raised female? 3)What are the odds the male will survive without...

    Urchin and Coraline algea....

Murph, what kind of urchin was that? I have so much coraline it isn't funny. It has encrusted everything. I have a tuxedo urchin, but with 140 gallons of tank to clear, he can't keep up. I would like to have another urchin to help, but I don't know what kind. I have heard some will knock...

    sand stars on the glass

Mine would occassionally take a climb on the glass too. I returned him to the store when I learn he was munching on the little creatures in my sand bed. I also noticed a reduction in my pod population. You may want to reconsider having 4 of them.

    Ca/alk additives?

I also use B-Ionic. I have to add more than the reccomended amounts to keep my levels up. I was told it was because I top off my tank with so much fresh water daily, and all the coraline algea in my tank. I too would like to know if there are any better buffer solutions available.

    Got him!

I actually let out an evil little laugh when I looked into those beady red eyes. Now I can rest easier and so can my fish.

    Got him!

One small glass jar, and one silverside rubber banded to a marble. Once he goes into the jar for the silverside, he can't climb out. I just haven't been able to find him to position the jar near his hole. Tonight he finally showed himself.

    Got him!

I say this with some guilt, but I got him. I caught the rock crab I've been after for almost 4 years. I believe he is behind the disappearance of several sleeping fish. I hope that's all of them as this was the 5th one I have trapped. He is so ugly.

    too much coraline

I wish I knew. All of my rock is purple. My heater is purple except the heating area. All of my power heads are completely coated. The back wall behind my rock work is solid purlpe. I have a Tuxedo Urchin, but I don't see him eating too much. The algea gets in the corners of my tank and I...

    too much coraline

What eats coralline algea? I have too much! Cleaning is so difficult. I am hoping to find some peaceful little creature that will eat some of it.

    Skimmer micro bubbles

Would you believe I did a water change and the bubbles have stopped! :cheer:

    Skimmer micro bubbles

The first thing I did when the problem started is clean both pumps. This truely is a mystery.

    Skimmer micro bubbles

Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a try. I am still wondering why this started. I have never needed floss in the past 3 years. Is it possible that my pump is failing? I have also read about a change in surface tension causing bubbles. What would cause that? FYI: Main tank water...

    Skimmer micro bubbles

My tank has been up and running for almost 4 years and out of the blue my skimmer starts putting out micro bubbles into the main tank. I have a DAS internal filter box with the skimmer inside the box. The bubbles are just streaming out the return. What causes this and what do I do to fix...

    help! red slime everywhere

This may sound crazy, but this is what I did. I was told that there ARE things in your sand bed that eat cyno. I very carefully turned the cyno over and covered it lightly with sand(using my glass scraping blade). This allowed the critters to get to the cyno better. I did this in combination...

    what kind of tang???

I added a sailfin and a purple to my 140 at the same time. They swim and feed together all the time. They are so cool together. Recently I very carefully added a yellow mimic tang. They are all very happy together. These are my 3 favs!

    Aquascaping

I think your fish and inverts would venture from side to side. Asthetically speaking, I think you would want to have some rock connecting the 2 piles or you will have just that: 2 piles of rock. My fish really enjoy swimming through the spaces I have in between my rock scape. Be sure to...

    This isn't a hobby anymore...

I had to remove my male green chromis. He bacame so agressive he would attack anything that went in the tank including me. Now that I only have females, things are much calmer.
