3X400 watt MH and 4X160 watt vho retro

Reefer_Fez, That sounds like an excellent setup. From the description of the setup, these are double ended bulbs, correct? Out of curiousity, what size is your tank? I have 3x 400wt Halides over my 150 gallon which is plenty of lighting in every inch of the aquarium. Graham

    150 gallon Tank Update

Thank you all for the great comments! what is "starboard"? Starboard is just another name for Cutting Board (Such as the type you use in your kitchen). Instead of having a bare bottom tank with nothing lining the bottom of the tank, I decided to put Starboard down for the benifits of running a...

    150 gallon Tank Update

Hey All, It's been quite awhile since I have posted here. Just thought I would give you a picture which was taken yesterday night. I've recently taken everything out and added starboard which I'm really liking so far. Take Care, Graham

    Acropora under VHO's: A Test!

Your coral is actually an A. sarmentosa. I can personally say (with experience) that Acropora will not do very well under flourecent lighting. "Back in the day" I had kept at least 6 Acropora frags under 8x 65wt PC's and one 110wt VHO. This was all under an 80 gallon tank. Within two weeks all...

    Angel twitching

Here's an update: The fish is already starting to eat prepared foods -- mainly mysids. I have seen no signs of ich, however, the twitching does occure at odd intervels. It's also starting to fatten up and get larger. I'm very happy with how well the fish is done. Here's an updated shot of the...

    Angel twitching

Hey Beth, Thanks for your reply! I know I should have left the fish in the QT longer than a few days. I just felt that it would be best for the fish to be with as much of a food source as soon as possible. Do you know if he had ich, or did you notice any ich in the tanks at the LFS. I've...

    Angel twitching

I have decided to try and rescue the life of a red sea juvinile regal angelfish. Out of a total of 6 fish, this was the only one not sold. It was swimming awkwardly (on its side) and not eating anything. I felt that it would be worth it to save the life of this fish, and for only $9.99...

what kind of live stock have you lost do to power heads?

I have lost several hermit crabs to and a small Randalls goby to an uncovered powerhead. I have also lost an Emporer Angelfish as well as a red sea Regal angelfish to the strainer on the Amp Master3000. It's definitely a hard lesson to learn. Graham

    going difficult

If you have been seeing the Morish Idol eating and acting normally, then I would go for it. How big is your tank and how much rockwork do you have? Graham

perdy shure it's a no go but ask n e way..

It's possible, but either you will be limited to what you can keep or you will be taking a large risk. The Emporer Angel should be fine with most SPS, as well as shrimp and some other invertibrates. However, it may enjoy eating zoanthids and LPS. The Harlequin tusk will eat just about any...

    Need to vent

Thank you all for the comfirting comments. I knew there wasn't much I could do in either situations, other than wait and hope that the fish pulls through, but as you still imagine, it's very disappointing loosing two wonderfull fish. Perhaps an eating, healthy, and quarantined Goldflake will be...

    Need to vent

Last Friday, after waiting almost three months for one, I finally picked up one of the healthiest red sea regal angelfish I've seen. He was around 2 1/2" long, had extremely nice coloration, and was very healthy. Literally, after seconds of being added to the tank, he was nipping at the rockwork...

    SPS Growth Tactics?

From my experience, You want to have undetectable amounts of inorganic phosphate, as well as silicate. You should have no soft corals in the genus Sinularia and Sarcophyton. The more photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), likely the more growth you will receive. I was recently running 400wt...

Beth -- need a quick answer on damaged fish

Hi Beth, Thank you very much for your reply. Luckily, the fish is doing much better. The lights are off, but the fish is behind the rockwork swiming around. I've also seen him take a few nips at the rockwork every once in awhile. Luckily the wound doesn't seem to be very serious at all. Shortly...
