Don't worry about high jacking. It's all relative. I'm not sure on the size hole but I'm going with 1/4" I think. It should be right above the water line in the sump and in the display tank. It's something that you want to do at the very end to know you have everything else dialed in.
Edat I ought the glass at AMC glass out here in Cali I believe it is a chain and only costs a buck more per baffle so I said what the heck it can't hurt.

The tank is done and filling up. I already put the sand and live rock in I used epoxy to hold the pieces together. I'm pretty happy with the outcome I finished the closed loop which I haven't tested for leaks yet but feel good about it. Everything is in place ready to be fired up which will be tomorrow night I would guess. Still need another 60 lbs of sand for the fuge and I should be good to go.
I hope the CL isn't loud that will be frustrating.

Closed loop in action. Two leaks both at the pump because I didn't tighten them all the way down. There are two videos one with the top middle return off and the other with it on. I'm glad I decided to put a valve on the top middle return because I knew it was the path of least resistance I prob have until tomorrow night before I have enough water to run the return. I should be starting the cycle in the next two days.

I know right I'm a little disappointed. Wait till the return pump kicks on. It will blow around for sure.

Yeah, I Was afraid that was going to happen for sure. That's one of the drawbacks of having a strong closed loop - breaks in the sandbed. I got away with it by putting my CL returns on the bottom of the tank, and had then blowing up and around when I had my 240 going. Thinking of doing some multidirectional rainbow loclines now?

Looks real good. It might just be my eyes, but on the left side of your tank does the wall of the room jut out a little bit? If so, that's pretty great. It takes away some of the visual distance your tank sits from the wall. Good stuff. I never knew you could upload videos to photobucket, either.

Well the tank is almost full. However I'm over pissed off with this outrageously expensive skimmer. There are no bubbles no directions and it seems like the pump isn't even doing anything. I'm pissed Its not plug in play that's for sure. I've been trying to find some reading but can't seem to find how to disassemble the stand pipe for the air hose. I think it's blocked or not connected. I'm so frustrated.

Well the clock starts. It's 4 in the morning and I just got the salinity in line and added 60lbs of live sand to the fuge. There are a lot of issues to deal with but it will work out eventually. My skimmer isn't producing, my bean overflow is not that quiet , my flow in the sump is a lil aggressive, the water level for the skimmer is too high, my return pump is very loud and has to be dialed back. Lots and lots of tweaking to be done

What kind of return pump are you using? All I can hear from my tank is the return pump and vortechs. Before I made the beananimal overflow it sounded like a stream was coming through my house. At first it was "nice" and "soothing"- words that I ascribed to the sound in order to try and make the most of it. Truth be told, it was loud and obnoxious. Since my overflow plumbing isn't straight down to my sump (there's two 90*s on each channel) I can hear a small trickle going through the open channel every now and then, but it's quiet. You'll get everything tuned in no time and I'm sure you will be satisfied with the results.

Bob what return pump? Can you shoot a video of theoverflow box? Might have a trick to quiet Iit down. As far as the skimmer goes. Go to RC and they have a dedicated thread for Vertex skimmers. Its actually pretty good and some good trouble shooting ideas.
Are you sure the pump is running? Have you tried adjusting the air volute that is on the pump itself? If you want call me.

I don't plan on using any lock lines on the CL. As far as the return pump, it's a water blaster 10000. It is the loudest item I have running. Which is much louder than my dart gold pump. Which leads me to what can I do to put under the pump and what can I wrap the PVC with to dampen the sound?
I do have great news. I figured out the bean overflow!!! I didn't have the top caps screwed down tight enough which is why I kept hearing air get sucked in. I'm sure I can tweak it a little more but it took no time to dial it in
No news on the skimmer. Still not doing anything. Need to read the manual for break in time. I did end up raising it up to 9.5".

Also to help jump start the cycle I dumped a few silversides and a couple pieces of home fish food.

Looks good. I hate that you are having some tweaking problems. I'm sure that you will get it all straightened out soon enough.
