Well I received the powdered blue and yellow tang. They are both much bigger than expected/wanted. I guess I got my monies worth but they are probably a year older than what I was looking for. The good news is they won't have any issues with the closed loop because they are too big. They both look healthy but it appears that the yellow tang has Lymphocystis It seems this developed once he got in the tank. Keeping a close eye on it and expect it to go away in the next few days.

I have been working on the canopy the last few weeks. Don't have any pics yet but will probably be done staining by tomorrow. I will probably put it on the tank for a week and then put a few coats of poly on.
The tank is doing very well considering its only had water in it for the last five weeks. I have a lot of coralline algae growing. The sand bed gets quit a bit of algae but by morning my snails take care of it. I have to give these new emarld crabs big props they have cleaned out all bryopsi and hair algae in the entire tank. Between them and the tangs it can't grow long enough for me to see it.
Corals are continuing to show improvement and color up nicely. Another month or so and I should be pretty solid
As for my fuge well, there are thousands of pods all over. However all of my macro and the sand bed has quite a bit of cyano algae I'm going to have to siphon the sand bed because its pretty bad with algae and cheato crap. However at least all the uglies are where they are supposed to be. The good news is my 6 mangroves have started to sprout their roots!! It won't be long now until they can reach the sand. I haven't decided if I will pu them in a container or let them go in my DSb. I will take some pics tomorrow.

Canopy looks really good. Aquascaping looks really nice also.
Seeing your tank makes me want to pull out all my rock buy more and start all over.....

Thank you! I dig the aquascape too. I already wish I had a deeper tank to do better scaping. Before you get too far I would make sure your 100% happy with your scaping before you start stocking it. You've worked too hard too long to just be "okay" with your scape.

Took some pics of the tank. Finally finished my canopy too. I'm noticing a couple of my new corals whitening at the base but have full PE. I'm not sure if it is getting too much light or not enough? Any thoughts ?

The one above is one I'm concerned about. Can't tell if it needs more or less light?

Your tank is progressing nicely and that stand looks great.
I have pics of your aquascaping saved in a file with others so that when I do get more rock I can steal some of your ideas

Thanks I appreciate the feedback from everyone. The rock work is really starting to become "alive" now. It won't be too long before its covered in coralline algae. I've noticed a few issues lately one being precipitation I can't seem to get my alk and calcium up. Alk is hovering below 7 and cal is around 380. Not sure why it would precipitate when I dose with a 1.1 ml doser for just over 2 mins for alk and a lil over 3 min for cal 24 hours per day. That's about 60 ml per day for alk and around 100 ml per day for cal. The dosing is placed right over my baffle leading into the return section which I believe is whisked away quickly. I have noticed clumping in my sand and not sure what to do?

That is a lot of alk and calcium to be adding and still have those readings. I wonder if the timing of the dosing has anything to do with it?? How much time between dosing each different additive?? Maybe it would be better to not dose each hour, but rather for a longer duration on the dosing pump over less increments (lets say 6 times per day verses 24 times per day, if i read your post right, that is).
I have read that dosing alk and calcium to close together can cancel each other out. Maybe dose Alk in the am and calcium in the pm?? Just throwing out ideas for you.

Lubeck, it's time for a Calcium reactor.
Take a clump of your sand for an experiment.
If bleach dissolves it them it is bacterial and you need more sandbed infauna (10 pounds of fresh live sand will do it).
If bleach does not dissolve the clump gather another clump (toss out the bleach clump) and see if vinegar dissolves the clump. If vinegar dissolves the clump then you are precipitating Calcium carbonate. Check your Magnesium.

Nice to see your still around Bang. I appreciate your input on the thread. Thanks for the experiment. I will test it tonight but have a few questions. Do I use straight bleach and vinegar or dissolve in water? How long should it take for the clump to dissolve? What if both don't work or is that not possible?. It seems I go through a lot of mag too. I dose daily and barely gets to 1350. I will check again

It looks like the vinegar won but I had to use balsamic. I know I need to get a cal reactor but until then any ideas?

Check all your water parameters. If you are dosing your calcium and alkalinity in the same spot in the sump, do it at different spots and at different times of the day. This helps to break it up and keep the sand from clumping. Make sure you are keeping your magnesium at 1350 or as close to that number as you can. When you get a calcium reactor, add a little dolomite to the reactor. It will add magnesium to the water column.

My standby was always limewater to maintain Alkalinity and Calcium. That may not be a good fit if your precipitating because it will raise the PH.
What is your current temperature and PH? What is the PH at its highest and what is the temperature of the water at that time?

My current temp is 81.5 and ph is 8.21. I run an apex and in the last 24 hr period my temp ranges from 81.9 to 80.1 and ph 8.29 to 8.17.
I recently switched my dosers to running alk at night, which is now keeping my ph up and calcium during the day. It's hard to say but being in California and temperatures the way they are my temp gets the highest around 82 @ 5-6pm At that time the ph is around 8.2. What are you trying to figure out? I could send you history of each just let me know
