Sorry for the delay.....Some update pics of progress on the canopy....Hopefully tomorrow, I can con my daughter or my wife to help me get the canopy up into place for final fit and install of the rest of the crown molding. Not that it's heavy or anything like that, but my luck something bad will happen and always easier with help, and to blame when something goes wrong......

Pics

.
Excuse the mess in the background!!!!!! Did start cleaning up the garage a bit, but a full front shot of the canopy. Still need something
on the front panel to finish it off.....Give me some ideas?????

Side view of the canopy. You can see I carried the molding across the bottom of the front access panel, and will do the same along
the bottom of the canopy under the speaker area. You can also see the last standout just set in place.

Side view of the front panel open. I cut the molding on the front at 22.5 to make it as seamless as possible.....

Front shot of the front panel open. You can see the panel isn't super big....maybe 44"x8" 3/4" thick. Doesn't seem like a lot of weight,
but more than the hinges will hold open and still haven't reinforced the back of the panel to fight warpage.

A good close up of the angle cut on the molding to make it appear seamless.

Progress on the last standoff being fabbed. Still have to do some sanding and touch up work and add the crown molding once the
canopy is actual back in place over the stand.

Man that's scary....The toy box hinge is the exact one I looked at Friday.....I looked at the heavy and medium, and light, and even the light seemed a bit much. I guess I will have to go back to WoodCraft and check them out again. I do know that you can adjust/have a small amount of adjustment you can do to them. I have looked at the friction hinge further down on the page, but I don't care for them to much for whatever reason. Those for sure would need 2.

If you own a compressor, there really isn't a cheaper or faster way to start spray finishing than this! This self-regulated, gravity-fed HVLP spray gun, works right off your compressor. Features a stainless steel needle and nozzle, as well as adjustments for air, fluid and pattern. So simple to operate, it is almost "plug" and "lay,” and it offers the advantage (because it is powered by an air compressor) of being powerful enough to spray a broad range of material.

That looks and sounds like a pretty descent gun, Shawn. I'm half tempted to go out and get one just to have it around. Honestly, I don't think you need to do to much more to finish the front panel, I think it looks pretty good just the way it is.

Yeah I might have to pick 1 up Saturday....The wife will be out of town!!!!! I keep looking at the front panel of the canopy and I know what you mean, but something keeps nagging at me about it, but can't put my finger on it......I did actually manage to get the canopy back inside the house and mounted back up with the help of my oldest daughter.....Finally did finish the last stand off, and got it mounted and the rest of the molding installed. Just have to do a little touch up work and then back down again; back to the garage again for finally sanding hopefully and ready for stain. I'll have to get some pics of the canopy mounted as well.

Ok....still hectic, but did manage to get the canopy up and into place as last reported....Just wanted to post some updated pics of the progress so far........

Sorry about the supports in the way.....didn't actually secure it into place as of yet....

Side view shot.....still haven't covered the speaker area with speaker cloth, but will happen in due time.....Excuse the mess!!!!!

Shot from the front.....

Still haven't totally decided on stain choice....Want to look at a few others, and hopefully within the next week will have it finalized....Ready to bring a little color to the pics.......

A couple pics with it secured and without the bracing in the way!!!!!

Kind of hard to get a good full shot of the front due to the layout of the room....Actually as your looking at the pic your actually on a
landing on my stairway coming down into my family room, so with the low ceiling height coming down the steps make it hard to get
a full shot. Excuse the stand off(pillar) in the way.....Should have been in place for the pics, but need to actually shave a bit off the
right side bottom molding to actually get the pillar to fit tight/snug to the stand. Actually nobody else would probably notice it or see
it, but it will bug me forever if I don't fix it!!!!!

On the top right of the canopy just under the crown molding you can see where I'll have to plane a piece down just under a 1/8" to take up that small gap between the canopy and the wall....Anal retentive actually.....

Yeah, I was just thinking to myself..."gawd I wish he would fix that unsightly gap in the top right hand corner". Nah!...it looks fantastic, man. I'm friggin jealous! I'm anxious to see some color on it too. Your tank stand looks like my dinning room table, only yours is much cleaner.

Thanks Corey!!!!! Maybe this weekend I'll finally stop being lazy and clear the top of the stand off
. Actually everyday this week after work that was my plan an intention, but you see how far that has gotten me......

Ok on a side note.....I stopped and picked up another sample of stain....Cherry, following Corey's lead... I like the color somewhat!!!! The wife actually likes it for a change. My question is I've been doing a couple test sample pieces and all the piece that I've sanded with 220 grit, seem to have a blotchy uneven finish.....The piece of Poplar I just picked out of the scrap pile and stand the color is perfect. The wood took the stain evenly IMO.....What's the deal?????

What brand did you use? I'm telling ya, I don't know if you have a Sherwin Williams near by you or not but you have to try this BAC stain that they mix up there...it's phenominal!

Oh and I forgot to yell ya, I did decide that I am going to pre-treat the wood. My last 2 samples that I did I pre-treated. There just seems to be alot of inconsistancy in the poplar. Some areas are softer and others harder. Just did one light coat of the treatment.

Sorry Corey it was another sample of Cabot. I had thought about pretreating ever thing as well after I had seen the Poplar not taking on the stain. I didn't have that issue with the Poplar when I used stain I had gotten from WoodCraft, so it's highly possible it could be the stai itself. Interestingly enough I did another sample of the Shaded Bark on a big piece of Poplar and it had no issue with retaining the color???? Bottom line I think your right to say it should be pretreated.
I do have a Sherwin Williams local over by my sisters house. I guess a good excuse to go visit her Saturday!!!! What is the brand and name of the Cherry stain? Thanks!!!!

Ask to see thier samples of BACK stains...the color I got was Traditional Cherry. Take some pieces with you they will test them in the store for you.
