I heard on the news this morning somthing about BP announcing that they would no longer drill in the gulf. I assume that means no more new wells. Anyone have any details?
First steps to telling the govt so long you're boot isn't as scary as you think it is?

I bet Michael Moore is licking his chops for his next documentary.
But seriously, at some point, BP is gonna say, you know what doing business, with the feds saying they are out for our blood, isn't gonna be worth it, and they'll pull out. Why not pull out, and wait a couple years until the political waters have calmed.

Now they are talking about jacking taxes on the oil companies. I just hope the American people have woken up enough to realize the increased taxes are just passed on to we consumers. Just another back door tax increase.

I heard that Obama said to stop giving oil companies tax breaks. Is that the same thing?

Yep, whatever tax you levy on a company it will be passed on to the consumer. Instead of wasting time and resources on lawsuits and PR campaigns against the oil companies they should be working on ways to make sure this doesn't happen again.
I am watching FOX News right now. Shepard Smith is showing pictures and video of animals soaked in oil. He's a Mississippi boy and looks shaken by what he's seeing. One of the fishermen that BP contracted to collect dead animals took a reporter from the NY Daily News out and let him see what was going on.

Using computer models of ocean currents, scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, part of the Commerce Department, conclude that once the oil in the uppermost ocean has been picked up by the Gulf of Mexico's energetic Loop Current, it is likely to reach Florida's Atlantic coast within weeks. It can then spread north with the Gulf Stream as far as Cape Hatteras, N.C., and then turn east into the open ocean.

Dude, when are you not watching Fox news. LOL
But all joking aside I also can see the price of gas going through the roof in the near future and it sucks. I would like to see the tax breaks go away and not see the consumer be screwed in the process. I can dream I guess.

I usually throw FOX on in the background when I'm doing something else. I try to watch Beck, Oreilly and the 2nd half of the Fox Report where they have the roundtable.
The tax credits the government created for the oil companies were intended to expand domestic production. Not only will removing them increase fuel priced, it will cost jobs.
I saw a report about the woman who resigned from the ******** Department. She was hired by Salazar out of BP. Well so what? I think the problem is we don't have enough people working in the regulatory agencies with industry experience. The mistake is placing them in positions of authority. They should be in advisory positions only but you need the practical experience to be able to understand what is going on. I really don't know why the woman was fired/quit but I suspect it was more a PR move than anything.

I don't know....this cap this looks shakey at best. I hope they can start welding or something to fix what they show as leaks now.
I can't stand seeing ANY of this anymore. It makes me sick, anxious, sad. They show 2 peli's, a heron and another bird I could not I.D all coated in slime/oil sand. I wished I could have scooped them up and brought them home to clean them up.
UGH!

If they are smart instead of trying to cap the well they will try to contain it and just go ahead and pump the oil up to barges until they can get a relief well done. Less chance of the pressure building up and blowing the valve off the pipe and what the heck, might as will get some oil out of the thing.

I doubt the cap would blow off. Besides they've gotta crawl before they walk

why couldn't this blow off? The saw got caught and they already said many ridges/rough cuts around. Cap is on, and still show leaks where rough cuts were. Welding or something has to begin. Something!!! Throw another top hat on TOP on this thing. I don't care. MAKE IT WORK until they can shut this thing down permanently !!!
Then let the criminal investigation commence!

Because there is 5000 feet of water putting downward pressure on it. I'm not saying it can't I just think they'll be able to fasten it on.

Well it seems like the cap is somewhat on and some oil has been captured. They said that they can't tell exactly how well the thing is working because they are losing the picture in the oil stream. Personally, I think this will be another failure but I sure hope that I am wrong.
